The Ivy League influence watered down into accessible 'street style' for any kid with a quid.
Mr. Cheeky Monkey has written about this on his thread. It's a rough & tumble form of 'Ivy' which goes with short hair & loud music.
Ben Shermans, Fred Perrys - all of that stuff goes along with this 'Ivy for everyone' look too.
Not purist.
Not elitist.
Just a version of The Look made available to all.
Another foot in the door to the style. Everybody has to start somewhere. No?

Ben Sherman... That bloke who shopped at John Simons' & copied the style of his shirts!
It's still Ivy style, but it's nothing to do with the hopscotch-for-girls game of internet "Trad".
This stuff is a 'vulgarisation' of the Ivy style (To borrow a word from Ian from 'The Ivy Shop'), but it is nowhere near as vulgar as internet "Trad" is with all its posing & pretenses.
Feel free to disagree... I fancy a scrap!
Scrappy Jack.
That Style of 69 site is a mirror of Warrior Clothing, but without the "Warrior brand" harringtons, buttondowns, etc. Very strange.
I wonder how many subculture boys who buy this stuff are even aware that the style they are adopting is based on ivy league?? Would it make them more interested in checking out the authentic ivy gear if they knew...?
I know some old school skinhead chums that are now into Brooks style ivy gear, and they seemed to discover it all without the help of yours truly to show them the way. Hope shines eternal!!
And it's odd that without John Simons we wouldn't have any of this:
He had to sell kosher BDs so Ben Sherman could copy them.
He had to bring in the Baracuta 'Harrington' so they could be copied by others.
The Loakes loafer looks towards the shoes sold in the Ivy Shop and the 'Royal' Brogue certainly does - Even the name is lifted from the Ivy's shoe (Loake did not make the original 'Royal', they were Nothamptonshire made by the firm who made for 'Timpsons' back then).
Interesting how influential one small shop stuck up Richmond Hill has been... Although what you're seeing on this thread is just copycat stuff made inexpensively to mimic the original & authentic US imports that John Simons has always sold.
I'm fine with all of this copycat stuff. It even has a charm all of its own. Start here and move on up if you wish. It's all got The Look.
I love the idea of sussed Skins getting into Brooks/Press, GS - It's all a part of their story too... Just as valid as a Brahmin in a BD!
Ivy for Everyone!
Happy Jack
