The V-neck sweater -the most versatile item of clothing a man can have

Think about it for a moment  the humble v-neck sweater.

beneath a suit for a smart business look.

over a collared shirt for a smart casual look.

over a polo shirt for a sporty look

over a white t-shirt for a dressed down look

over the shoulders for a preppy , devil may care look?

round the waist for a grungy look

wool for warmth.

cotton for the warmer months.

cashmere for luxury.

I like blue ones best -lend it to your lady -she likes them too.

Didn't Hardy Amis hate them in his little book of rules?

I like them tho'. I seem to live in knitwear more & more...

The V-neck looks great on girls worn just by itself or maybe with a short plain-ish necklace. IMHO. A very flattering neckline.

Just purchased a new v-neck today.

a beautifully soft cashmere in a soft pink by Barrie`s of Scotland.

Looks really splendid with a light blue spread collar shirt beneath and a lovely earth toned ( muted greens and browns with a goldy check overlay) tweed jacket- over the lot.

I am inclined to wear the ensemble with denim jeans and a stout pair of tan brouges as a casual knock about outfit.

for a little more dressed up I think I would be tempted to wear british khaki coloured chinos with a 3 eyelet brown Chukka boot in either calf or suede.

Where can you still get a v-neck jumper that's deep enough for a collar and tie?

companies such as Elgin, Johnstons, Barrie ( all scottish) - produce a nice range of knitwear with a decent gorge. best in cashmere.

I know Johnstons used to make for house of bruar but I think Elgin also do.

www.houseofbruar.co.uk

Marks and spencers don`t produce a bad sweater for knocking around in.

as far as straight forward lambswool is concerned I`m rather a fan of wolsey.- they used to have a royal warant you know - from HM the queen mother.
