I recently inherited a wax jacket, made by John Partridge. Dark green, brown leather collar, burgundy paisley-patterned fabric lining, length between Beaufort and Border. No holes, no scruffs.
What should I do with it? I have given it a decent scrub and shower. When it is dry I will re-wax it. And then? Isnt wearing wax jackets out of style, unless when using them for their original purpose(s)?
I remember when we bought the jacket - ca. 1990.
Does it fit you? Do you like it? I don't own a waxed jacket, but I like the look of them. If I did own one, I'd probably wear it today, as it's cool and rainy and it would be perfect to wear to go out and work in my workshop while I cut and stain wood and things like that. Do you do things like that? Cut and stain wood?
I hate it when some bastard wearing a wax jacket sits next to me on the train in the morning. The stuff comes off on your clothes, it has to, therefore it must also come off on the wearers clothes. Keep well away from me Beeston if you're on the 06.08 to Waterloo.
It fits me well - in fact I have bought it myself and then gave it to someone else.
It is currently drying and I probably have to repeat the cleansing process tomorrow - it is dusty and I want to avoid coating the dust with the new layer of wax.
That's PM. It's the time he goes out to start his "pub crawl."
1. take photos of jacket pre-waxing
2. " during waxing
3. " after waxing
4. perform cost/benefit analysis of re-waxing vs. price of new jacket
5. Post pictures of yourself wearing jacket, ideally in your bathroom, on any Trad forum
6. Become an iGent hero
7. Profit

Wear it whilst doing the garden, cleaning the car (winter) and walking the dog. It's what mine's used for, just an opinion.........
I've got a Barbour one, but not the Sloane ranger type that became so ubiquitous for about 18 months back in the late 80s: it's black version based on some Commando utility jacket. It probably needs re-waxing now, which is probably the station I will get off at....
Oh yes, the Barbour motorcycle jackets.
Like: "I have a Rolex, but I am not a pretentious/stupid capitalist banker/show-off, because mine is a COMEX diver blablabla type and I wear it with a Nato strap like Chuck Norris".
Barbour motorcycle jackets are the wax-coated moral high horse of reverse snobbery.
I have a Filson wax jacket. It's a good jacket when it is 40-60 (f) and raining. I'll wear it on the subway or bus. IDGAF if someone thinks it stinks or is likely to get wax on them. I'm slim enough to fit in a seat. If one is actually rubbing up against me it's their fault. Plus this is New York. I'm counting on the general wariness others have of strangers. I don't look like much, but then I just might be the crazy one waiting for the flimsiest excuse to stick a sharpened key in someone's rib cage.
Wax it up. Put your poker/crazy face on and be done with it.
Or you could put on your joker face, and then wax up your mustache.
Lol...no wonder we are a laughingstock to our betters at Ivy Style. While I have the thought, are slippers loafers or gunboats?
