Random JS observations

- How great that Mr Hudson Senior is still around in the far-end JS shop. I still dont "get" their Mayer washed cotton trousers - they look as if they were designed for the Mephisto-shoes-wearing over-60 crowd.

- Budd - now seriously, the Duck-themed novelty cartoon ties? Dont let the iGents find out.

- Hilditch & Key, small shop: Asian guy who is in charge of it, and his ladies (the Mexican, the Japanese) - they have so much fun chatting and ignoring the customers, I dont want to know how many Americans have taken offense so far.

- Hilditch & Key, large shop: A very large shop with relatively few pieces of merchandise in it. Too bright. Cute Italian girl behind the counter.

- Turnbull & Asser. Finally, they now employ a proper iGent, with beard/ponytail etc. Hurrah. Last time i bought a few ties they gave me a bottle of their Cologne for free. Nice gesture? Or do they need to get rid of that stuff? Great plain ties though, although they struggle to make one in proper burgundy that does not look like brown.

- revamped T.M. Lewin shop: Turn up the music, guys. And maybe install one of these scent-diffusors. You CAN become the Analcrombie & Fitsh of the JS shirt manufacturers. You are on the right way.

- Charles Turbitt: And if that is NOT downmarket and fauxy enough, Hawkes & Curtis will wait for you.

- The shop in the arcade (or "mall"?) next to New & Lingwood, selling this Gothic stuff like pointy shoes: WTF?

- Taylor of Old Bond Street: always full of tourists, who hesitate to spend 170 GBP on a shoehorn.

- DAKS: Great idea, so when will Austin Reed open their flagshop store on JS then? The XJ6 Series 1 2.8 manual of JS. More gravy please.

- Emma Willis: Is she behind this new sportswear brand for young people? You know, with the duck logo (ducks AGAIN)? Anyway, I could understand the cult about her IF she'd be a hottie, maybe like Kardashian.

- Harvie & Hudson, the shop with the marble/gold-inlay front. Love it, because of its 60ies design (stark contrast to the 60ies brutalist architecture above its entrance). And the relatively short salesman, proper Eastend wideboy, Guv'ner. Richard Harvie running a tight ship.

Singapore:

The Brooks Brothers Non-iron place at Vivocity .  Ignore it unless you want to break down and cry how low the company has fallen in this area.  Just say never to non-iron trndy Brooks.

Ralph Lauren shop at the Marina Bay Sands next to the Casino.  Yes, yes and yes.  The Marina Bay Sands casino shopping area is upmarket, with all the menswear primarily Italian brands , but this the way I believe a Ralph Lauren shop to be.

Brooks Brothers shop at Raffles Place.  Mostly shirts, ties and trousers too small for my size buta  good starting place.

My tailor:  I am seeing if he can make an Ivy Style jacket and pants to the exacting standards I expect.  He does fuse the jacket but am prepared to accept that for the price.  He alas does not do a lapel flower button but can get another tailor to do that.  His shirts and trousers are great for the price and he will allow you to provide your own material,  Saying that his selection of lightweight materials and linings, including silk, is good and does include heavyweight cotton.   Primarily a high volume shirt and trouser manufacturer.  His is a factory with a very busy meeting area, primarily locals gewtting tailored suits made, especially given it is in an industrial park.  The boss will sit down and discuss your needs and wants.

Re: Random JS observations

JS made me think of the great guru of Talk Ivy.

Jermyn Street? You did not mention Lobb and Edward Green - no prices on the shoes. That loud 1960s shop, half way down, with discounted items in the window - the one Bishop of Briggs thought lowered the tone of the street.

"Florid, smug, middle-aged golf club bore in this country I'd say. Propping up the 19th hole in deepest Surrey bemoaning the perils of immigration."
