Spit polish questions

1. how does it work?

2. does it also work on cordovans? I am struggling to get my Aldens into mirror-like finish,

Re: Spit polish questions

It will not work on the modern cordovan Aldens, with the exception of Trad Saddle Oxford which suits the leather very well. And is a pre-WWII collegiate style dating back to the '20s.

Re: Spit polish questions

1. Exactly the same way compare to wax polishing cars or wax polishing marble floors and make them shiny as fuck - by depositing waxes to fill out the on even surfaces. It's so easy that even high school dropout serviceman can do it.

2.  Alden cordovan has been factory spray finished with acrylic wax so you wouldn't get a very high shine on them.

Re: Spit polish questions

Shooey, you pineal gland has been fried beyond repair, and the rest of your brain is scrambled. But oh God, your shoes are MONUMENTAL.

And though I cannot understand how, your brain waves have some kind of power because I'm about to go down the rabbit hole of a spit shine tonight after work. Hopefully the effect will be gone by then, or I'll tap the missus, or just shut the f*cking computer off because now I'm ill at ease with your brain waves directing my actions.

Re: Spit polish questions

When some rooster posted pics of your shoo collection a few years ago shooey, they looked nothing like the above.  Don't want to rain on your parade, though wink

Re: Spit polish questions

SHOOMAN! HELP ME!

I have a pair of C&J cordobrogues and their shine is "sticky"/dull compared to my Aldens. I am brushing and brushing but there seems to be some sort of sticky polish (I believe C&J put something on their shoes as a last step in the manufacturing process to protect the shoes from drying out when stored until they are in the shops; I have buffed away said polish on my calf C&Js and it seems to be true).

Re: Spit polish questions

Yes. Should I use some saddle soap (with caution) to remove the sticky stuff?

Re: Spit polish questions

Well I will scrub with a warm damp cloth first and then polish with a brush, WITHOUT applying additional cream.

Re: Spit polish questions

Shoeey:

It is very simple. Do not use any product/cream, just spit on it, and then rub, fast and light, to build up heat. Eventually you will reach the desired finish...bang!

Repeat until exhausted/sore.
