I think the thing for me is because JS was working in quite a conservative area of dress and because a lot of what he's done is copyist (although that didn't stop Ralph) he's never going to be held up to Paul Smith or Westwood..but then he didn't achieve that level of success, but then it's not what it was about.
What he has attracted are a lot of liggers... which doesnt really reflect him..I would say what has come across in people like JP is knowing your stuff which clearly comes from JS, he's like a teacher which is where this whole attitude about him comes from IMO.

I would agree that without JS and then subsequently Jim , Talk Ivy and probably a lot of online UK Ivy fans wouldn't exist.
However the place has changed , we are multi national with quite a few Americans which is a good thing..
I presume to a lot of them the UK Ivy scene and its history is meaningless and i believe the obsession with JS is what drove a lot of the Yanks away
from Talk Ivy back in the day..Its a one trick pony that was sent to the knackers yard a long time ago.
The unashamed hyping of the documentary or this thread almost deifying the man, is what i find totally contrived and ultimately exceedingly boring..
Well, I just didn't want to start a new thread, as there are so many older threads on the man here.
The stuff I've retrieved is from the old website, and, of course, there's hype. I mean, if you're going to do PR stuff you don't write: "Oh, I'm not happy with the current Duck Heads at JS. They old ones were so much better before the relaunch", which is certainly not John Simons' fault, or you don't write "at the moment all the great stuff is sold out, the shop is going to close soon, and there's nothing worth looking for" or you don't complain about prices or whatever point of critique you want to offer...
Just let him have his meltdown/rant then subsequent apology. I set my watch by it.
lol.
My problem isnt JS, my problem is the fan boys...if you're going build your whole self worth on the efforts of another man and what you contributed to a backwater internet forum and go about like a load of deranged zealots it's no wonder why you get thought of as a bunch of c.u nts... your whole angle is to be seen to be better, it's a sad state of affairs. You lot never grew the fuck up

All hail St. Bop! The complete renaissance man, Mr (erm)... Bop.
Also I wouldn't consider JP and GM in the ligger list, both talented and productive in their own right
Over zealous fan boys or not: he's that unimportant that they're making a documentary on his contribution to the Ivy diaspora/post war men's style in the UK.
John Simons is a niche market, with a limited demographic, but one that counts!
We have place for Davebrubekistan, why not Simontology?
Hmmm, I better get me coat......
