Yesterday was cold and bright - about 3 degrees as I took my son to school- so out came the old covert coat- with brown velvet collar- that I have had since my university days( some alterations have been necessary) this was worn over a pair of levi 505`s -my new Brooks button down pink shirt -grey v-neck sweater-and yellow paisley silk scarf. shoes were an old pair of brown loake slip ons.

today it is pissing down - so I turned to- "old reliable" - barbour beaufort .

I'd like to get one of the Crombie models that the Krays wore.  Sort of that Gangster coat in my mind.  THough what associations they have in England, I dunno.  I like the navy or midnight blue models that I've seen.  I think something similar was worn in the Clive Owen flick "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead".  There's probably this whole symbolism to coats in England that I don't really get.


One thing I detested, however, was when Barbours started getting really popular in the US.  At the time, Barbour issued the little metal name plate that was pinned to the collar.  And all these phoney types kept them in the collar.  It's like that silly leather tag on coach bags.  Ditch it, damn it.
