In life that brings the most pleasure -or so they say- I`ve never been a big beliver in this - but there is no doubt there is pleasure to be derived from innocuous everyday stuff.
for Julie Andrews -it was brown paper parcels - tied up with string ( I have to say I`m not necessarily averse to recieving brown paper parcels myself )
today I got some satisfaction from wearing red ,white and blue stripped socks to church.
share your small pleasures- Guilty or otherwise- we are all adults here, after all - sometimes I fantasize about giving Mrs. Thatcher a good seeing to .
I like polishing shoes-
.
applying the polish over the surface -working polish over the entire surface - into all the creases and hidden places, creating a moist and shiny surface to gently and lovingley- make small circular caressing movements across the shoe- before tenderly taking a brush -slowly working up to a cressendo of brush strokes- before laying your brush down -with the blood gushing in your arm from the exertion.
most satisfying imho.
I love the smell of food far more than the taste.
Walking around a market with a good bakery & a coffee shop is my idea of heaven.
Doesn't cost either!
Topping up the hot water in the bath & pouring another drink.
the first sip of tea in the morning -the last sip of port at night
Having my sideburns level (hard to do!).
listening to radio 4`s play for today-in front of an open fire-on a wet and windy winters afternoon
Just the act of folding & putting away the Summer clothes and bringing out the Autumn ones at this time of year.
First Shetland of the season for me today: Mid-Brown with a Blue OCBD & Olive chinos.
Then I raked some leaves.
The sound of rain on the roof at night while I am warm in bed with Mrs Sparrow.
realizing as I brushed my hair in the mirror this morning-that my choice of clothing.
pink spread collar shirt - and brown cashmere v-neck.
could be a euphimism for a ladies nether region.
I`ve been smilling to myself quite a lot today.
much to my good ladies annoyance-"what are you smilling about "-"oh nothing dear"
Shaving with a new blade.
sliding my foot into a leather lined wellington boot-
Having a good cough.
Buying a pint for the old boy in the pub- allways sat in the far corner of the bar - nursing his pint for most of the night- watching the comings and goings-he`s seen it all before.
" and a pint for William - please landlord"
sheets and blankets rather than duvets
The sound of a bonfire.
Having clean teeth.
Any sunset over any expanse of water.
watching Terry Thomas-as Raymond Delawney-in school for scoundrels
Feeling in my pocket for my keys & finding they are there.
