So, what did you speak with him about exactly?
Dear Sir,
I would love any stories about Chipp. All this stuff needs to be preserved before it is lost forever.
Already the story of 'Trad' has been altered to fit other peoples' agendas.
The One True Trad must become our Holy Grail.
A style for everyman.
A sack for every mentsh.
Miles ;-)
I had drinks one evening with Steedappeal and a friend of his who was wearing an early 60s Chipp suit made for Dean Acheson. I'm not a Trad guy, but for the first time I saw the beauty that can exist in a properly cut sack suit. It was jaw dropping. The suit hang on this fellow as something would in an Apparel Arts illustration.
It was quite drapey, which put it at odds with the more linear and mod-ish Trad stuff we see today. The suit showed that even though a jacket does not have darts, the Trad look can vary from draped and relaxed to clean and Jazzy.
I wonder if this drape sack was a Chipp speciality.
Anyone have an idea as to how much Chipp charges for full bespoke? (I know, I know. Very gauche. But the memory of that suit has me thinking...)
Perhaps, it would bode well to have a resurgence of Sulka.
Dear Lord Copper:
Thanks for the reminscence of pleasures and gatherings past.
Just for the record: my friend's suit was a hand-me-down by another man of serious purpose:
Cy Vance.
As always, I agree with you completely...up to a point!
