Groan!
This old fashioned lumberjack prefigures the ones I've seen in SF while visiting my son.

Having worked outdoors and in a sawmill I can honestly say give me a warm office to work in...by the time you get to your 30s youll just want some creature comforts

"Men trapped in cities began suffering from neurasthenia, a new disease that skyrocketed to almost epidemic status in the 1880s and 1890s. Neurasthenia was the overtaxing of the nervous system, a sort of male hysteria. "
This describes the male hosts at MSNBC.
The females too, for that matter.
I think the problem with the article is it doesnt really appreciate the inner desires of men to be at one with nature..the urban lumperjack. its an outward manifestation for the northern european males yearning to be wrapped up warm and in a forest of evergreens leading a simple life..it reflects the hermitude of many men
The scene like any masculine affair has its homoerotic edge because images of masculinity obviously attract that sort of thing but you can see a distinctive difference between those dresssing this way to be burly on point fashionistas, whether straight or gay and those that want to be at one with a more natural way of life, its been a look of snowboarding surfing and skating for as long as i remember... which probably has a lot to do with the Pendleton influence on the West Coast

Grunge too right? All the jeans and beards and flannels and coming out of the Pacific Northwest.
In the Uk i think there is a distinction between the neo grunge lot and the soho east london mounty crowd.
