"For the past half-century, when the subject turns to the simple question, “What defines ‘cool’?” there has always been one perfect answer: Miles Davis."
“Miles Dewey Davis III – trumpeter, visionary, and eternal modernist – was a force of nature,” wrote Ashley Kahn (author of Kind Of Blue: The Making Of the Miles Davis Masterpiece, Da Capo, 2000) in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame dinner journal on the occasion of Miles’ induction. “With an earth at disregarded categories of style, he sought out new musical worlds, and generations followed in his footsteps. While the creative rush and experimental charge that come to most musicians in youth eventually run down, Davis held an exploratory edge for most of his 65 years. It had to be fresh, or forget it.”

"Not to worry about where they've been, like John K posted earlier. One never saw a spec of lint, booze or anything on them which would scare someone off. Perhaps in a setting where one would "sweat" a lot they would have taken in too much of Miles, but his clothes were always immaculate, and the best looking that anyone wore, except for Sonny Rollins, Max Roach and Ray Brown - it was Miles who always looked terrific. Miles was so image conscious that he was a fashion plate if ever there was one. (Still can't get over his later day dress). The Houndstooth sports jackets were my favorite's and I can still picture him wearing them, They were in beautiful wools, in shades of cream, tan and brown. Did he ever look great in them, and in everthing else he had on with them. I always noticed what he was wearing, even down to his Benedictine tan shoes, they were pricey as well as good looking. He's the one I remember the most as far as dress goes. He was promoting his image and it worked with me, that's for sure. His taste was exceptional as far as how I liked to see anyone dress. Why I don't know, as all of us at the beach were always in cut-off sweatshirts, and other beach wear, but when we would change into something for dress, we knew the ropes. Polyester was never our choice."

The author of that broadcast was (is?) an Andover customer for many years. You either love him or late him, but he has some good shows and good content.
Jackerino ol' chum,
I think the site has been updated, though the "dates" themselves don't indicate this. The pics certainly look different from the old fall catalog. Though I haven't checked the site religiously for changes.
Some of the 2 button jackets look to be Southwick Dorset cuts. Others might different.
I'm fan of the Dorset cut myself. I think the button stance is pretty good for a 2 button -- about as "timeless" as you can get for an American style. Though I'd go with a lapped seam myself.
Which you can get MTM if not RTW these days. But Andover does special makes up even for their various RTW offerings.
edit: haven't checked closely in the last few years, but even those that look like the Douglas 3 button sometimes have darts, and those that look liek the Dorset (usually coming with darts standard) lack them. So there's the play with that feature as well.
edit2: I didn't invest myself, but had I been in the market, I would've snatched up the summer offerings of the clearance or sale offerings on the 2 button, non-darted Harris Tweeds from Silver. An excellent value, to my eye. If not the most compelling of fabrics. They were and are great basics. Esp. the blue and grey mixes, which are among my favorites that Brooks makers used to do.

The new catalogue photos are very different (& nice).
Southwick get a name check in the Andover cat. along with Gitman etc. - I think you're right.
Page 18 of the new catalogue makes me happy.
