Sock Color

I've been surreptitiously reading this board on and off for several weeks. It's a fine project and at times most amusing. The lack of ads is very appealing as well.

As a first inquiry, does anyone else here enjoy 'shaking things up' with dramatically and unexpectedly colored socks? I often deliberately pick colors that are dissonant with the rest of my ensemble. My SO often rolls her eyes at it, which is, I confess, part of their attraction for me. I am considering branching into radical patterns too, having been inspired by the 'dazzle' color schemes which were painted on troop transport ships during WWI. I look forward to any response.

Re: Sock Color

Hello and welcome EB - you don`t mind if I call you Billy for short do you? -rolls of the tounge so much easier.

with regards to your question-other than funerals where a sense of decorum and correctness is necessary-I wear coloured socks everyday.

Usually a block colour- red-green-yellow-orange-I`m not talking about vividly bright colours but subtle shades that reveal a flash of colour as you would cross your legs whilst sitting down - I`ve recently taken to wearing some stripped socks also.

Is it an affection on my part?- possibly.

But  I think we Brits are far more adept at this type of thing -it comes from wearing brightly coloured and patterned shooting socks on the moor and for the Scots wearing in some instances coloured hoes ( I`m going to leave that joke exactly where it sits- maybe Mike can pick it up) to blend with their kilts.

I occasionaly wear red socks, usually with a pair of green moleskins and some tan brogues , I like the contasting colour betwixt the two.

Pale pink, blue, maroon and off-white are all regular favourites. I do sometimes wear a black and white leopardskin-patterned argyle too, good with black brogues.

Re: Sock Color

I like pink socks with suits and yellow ones with sport coats. It gets harder to find nice socks. Any suggestions?

Re: Sock Color

Well done! Who ever came up with the "socks have to match you slacks " idiocy anyway?

Re: Sock Color

I like loud socks. Brooks has some argyles this year. Not exactly loud, but they make a litle noise. tom

Re: Sock Color

I like to wear socks that are the same hue as my ties.
Just enough coordination for me.

Take care, gents.
God bless.
