Normally when I wear a suit or jacket, I reach for a white, blue, pink, or some form of striped shirt from the oxford or broadcloths in my closet.
Once in a while, the only one I have left is a yellow oxford button down. I like the shirt a lot on its own with khakis or shorts, and I think it looks good next to a navy suit or a blue blazer too.
However, I've never found a tie I thought really looked "right" with it...the closest I've come is something in pale blue or a green repp of some sort.
Looking for some suggestions...my eye just does not seem to be good for yellow.

Brooks #1 in burgundy.
For some reason ,I don`t know why but yellow shirts look dreadfull on me, allthough I like them very much.
One of the nicer combinations I have seen worn was a yellow shirt with a green tie .
I think there is some rule or other about yellow and green should never be seen except on a fool,or maybe it`s some other colour combination.
my appologies for mentioning the "R" word ,I know things here are different (old habbits die hard)
I love yellow shirts - I have a beautiful pale yellow tattersall shirt from viyella - that when the need arises to wear a tie -I pair with a browntie with an orange paisley pattern.
Is there a rule regarding this?
Yellow makes me look ill also. Only my socks are yellow.
I concur with the "navy knit tie" poster; a knitted tie in charcoal or maybe even brown would work too
Irish poplin repp with navy background?
Ol Chum,
No need to ruminate too much on yellow. Many ties look smashing, especially blues.
I like a simple regimental like this, but with a white stripe ruther than blue.

Yellow looks good with most club ties also.
Cheerio,

^ Surely this is the Eton tie & not a 'regimental' at all?

Chums,
some wonderful suggestions by all. I too was thinking of what tie best suited the yellow shirt. I've usually gone blue myself, though the Args and Suths tie is an ol' standby.
I still can't find a new yellow shirt I like, since Brooks changed their color scheme.
Trippers suggests the ol' boys tie. I notice that Hober offers something that looks quite the same. Speaking of which, I wonder if any of 'Arry's Trad Tie creations mightn't just work. Perhaps he's to be commissioned for an idea for Trad Tie #5. It's that time again.
Cheerios,
