why is it unlucky to put up an umberella in the house?

what is the tradition of a great millitary man or a deceased monarch to have they`re riding boots placed in they`re horses stirrups backwards?

I`m sure there are loads more of this type of clothing superstitions does anyone Know anymore or the answers to the above?
