Re: Brooks Brothers MTM Shirts

Chums,

I was feeling pretty good about myself tonight.  Trying to pick myself up from a week of being beaten down by life.  On my way to a dinner party (informal), and I put on my MTM Brooks pink shirt.  Jeans.  Brown wingtips.  Cord jacket.

Then I noticed that one of the shirt cuffs was lined (heavy) and the other lacked any lining whatsoever.  (I prefer an unlined cuff).  What the hell?  Anyway, I've washed it once or twice, but will consider sending it back to the factory to have the lined cuff replaced all the same.  Don't know if they'll just take the lining out of the lined cuff, or if they'll have to replace the unlined cuff with a lined cuff.

I also noticed that the actual cuff lengths were two different measurements.  I understand that sleeve lengths do not match, but I've always seen this taken into account in the adjustment to the fabric of the actual sleeve material length not the cuff length.  So that's a little off too.

Cheerio,

H.

edited for clarity, I hope.

Re: Brooks Brothers MTM Shirts

I've read this thread with great interest and now feel ready to ask a few questions.

1. Opinion on the Golf (club) collar vs. the Button Down. I think I like the Golf collar but not sure if it's better as a white collar or shirt body color. Also, is there any situation where the Golf collar can be worn without a tie?

2. Is there an appreciable difference between the MTM oxford in terms of material, fit, little details, etc. vs. the in-store oxford? I find the Slim Fit RTW oxford fits me to a tee and I wonder if the MTM is worth the extra $60. I'm sure it depends on the person and I'm not sure I won't pull the trigger, but I am curious.

BTW--Horace, can you describe the color difference between the OTR BB pink oxford and the Heritage pink of the MTM? Online, they do look quite different but I wasn't sure if that was my screen resolution or if they're acutally that different.

Thanks.

Archie

Dumb ass question:

Horace - How is the pocket stitched on your MTMs, 'V' or straight?

Equally, what about the Golfs?

Re: Brooks Brothers MTM Shirts

Chums,

I was thinking of getting a few french cuffed shirts from Brooks MTM program.  With tennis collar and in poplin/broadcloth.

Can anyone remember the dimensions of the original tennis collar (is it still the same from the 60's) and any other details that I should know?

Where any of you buying french-cuff shirts from Brooks way back?

Also thinking of a BD collar with french cuffs.  Non-Brooksian, no doubt.  But there it is.

Yr hmbl svt,

H.

Tripster, Ol' Pal O' Mine -

How pin-through friendly would you rate the old Brooks Tennis collar?

I always think that a longer collar pins best...  Maybe that's just me...

Re: Brooks Brothers MTM Shirts

ah, the ol' stone mightn't be bad for tweeds and whatnot, eh?

they brought back the ol' light blue, which is nice.  Now if they'd get the green back, that'd be swell indeed.  Never was too much a fan of the peach, but my ol' chum Trip, as I recall, had a trunk full at school.

I didn't know the ol' tennis collar was 3" then.  What is it now?  You can get it in MTM I think.  quite a swell collar, really.

And 'Helio' is the other forgotten hue from back in the days when the standard Brooks OCBD came in 9 colours...

Re: Brooks Brothers MTM Shirts

'Tan' OCBDs were very popular too back in the 50s & 60s I'm told.
No idea who made them.
Were they ever in the Brooks cannon?

Happy Solstice/Hanukkah/Christmas/Chocolate to all -
