I rather liked this.
There's loads of rubbish about Northern Soul out there. This seemed better than a lot of the rest.
Sadly (with my back) it's not for me...

Out-takes from the above.
cool video Jack, never seen that before!
NS style is an odd bird...a mish mash of the tribes that came before it (mod, suedehead, skinhead) and the growing popularity of disco and funk in the 70s. Most of it leaves me a bit cold (too many baggy trousers) but I love watching the dancers. A lot of the moves are like the forefathers of breakdancing in the 80s
Was there not a time in northern soul - when you took your own salt cellar to a function -and drew a circle on the dance floor in salt of about 2 feet diametre -in which you danced for the evening.
never heard of that, but "salt"? I could see someone doing that with talc since dancers always carry the stuff in their dancebags
What a wonderful and almost elegiac documentary. Where the fuck can I learn to dance like that?
These I used to wear with my chums in a variety of styles in our clubby days:

Low heeled, suede soled (yes, really) - No need for talc.
6Ts at the 100 Club, Gaz's Rockin Blues, Le Tango, Anywhere really.
I was never very good, but I'd have been a lot worse without the shoos. I used to shuffle a bit... I was never brave enough for anything more.
