Re: Source For Vintage Leather Jacket?

yeaaahhhhh. they sold them at abercrombie and fitch back in the 70's and 80's. I bought one and they were made by Willis and Geiger. That was the military bomber jacket for southern climes. 400 bucks in the mid 80s. The gorgeous one that went for 1200 dollars back in the eighties was made of a single sheepskin and that was what they wore on Bomber Missions over germany circa 1944. Just like George McGovern wore after 50 missions over occupied territory. One skin, one very warm coat that would survive a mission with no heat in the plane. Willis and Geiger. period. I still have the 42 horsehide jacket from 20 years ago. It don't fit though. and they don't make the replacement.

Re: Source For Vintage Leather Jacket?

Well said, Vaclav. Stuart Clurman at Lost Worlds does make amazing, no-nonsense leather jackets, definitely not for the faint of heart.

I own a custom B-3 jacket that fits perfectly thanks to a very detailed "remote" fitting process involving sample jackets sent back and forth, pictures, and email. Stuart is a great guy and very frank in his approach to business, a trait that some people don't like but that I certainly appreciate. I'll write more extensively on my experience and post pics!

Re: Source For Vintage Leather Jacket?

The hilarious thing is, for every post about top 10 women to wank to, there is a post that drops serious knowledge on men's fashion.  This place is more fun AND more educational than the other men's clothing MBs and they know it.  The number of lurkers from AA who never post has to be in the thousands.

Cheers.

Re: Source For Vintage Leather Jacket?

Bro. Gray.,

Bean did two jackets -- one a model like the A2 and another that was a longer cut.  They were well-made in the USA, expensive for their time.  I don't know if they're still currently offered in the catalog, but perhaps you could find one somewhere.

Yr 'umble svt,

H.

edit:  a friend of mine had the Bean version of the A2 and he really liked it.  I wore it a few times.  I think there was one or two details on it that weren't "authentic," however.

I remember those Bean Jackets - 'Flying Tiger' or somesuch? They certainly had the look.

'Golden Bear' is the name I think of in this connection from J.Simons. Do they still do good stuff?

Re: Source For Vintage Leather Jacket?

I wonder if the above chap is a gentleman?

Brother G:  Thanks for the update.  I think in prev. incarnations, Bean offered a longer style leather jacket.  Longer skirt, more motorcyclish.  Though not quite what you were looking for.
