Granted, the guy seems to be reaching a bit, but I can actually really appreciate a good pencil or pen.

There's a pencil museum not far from where I live, I believe it's home to the world's biggest colouring pencil.

It's on my bucket list.

The good thing with selling stuff at this price level is that the casual passer-by may buy something just for a laugh, which won't happen in a refurbished grammophone vintage bike bespoke trainers store. And you can't knock a line-up of crisp Caran d'Ache rubbers. (...nervous giggles...)

Re: I thought this was an April Fool's prank at first

I had to sign for a package the other day at work, and the guy handed me his pen to use.  As I began my signature, it was immediately evident that this was no ordinary pen.  The ink was flowing from the tip like molten gold.  My signature was bold and elegant.  I felt emboldened myself, as if those viewing the form along it's journey would see my signature, pause, and think: Damn.  We delivered an important package.  Look at that signature.  This is from the hand of a great man!

Time almost seemed to slow down as I signed, and I actually thought of using some slight of hand to steal the guy's pen.  I glanced at it as I handed it back and it was just some variant of Uni-Ball, but it sure wrote real nice.  "Nice pen"

I guess it's only slightly odder than obsessing about the details of a perfect vintage OCBD shirt.

When in middle school I actually used a fountain pen for a while.  I thought I was the absolute shit.

In elementary school, we all started getting fancy mechanical pencils. We would brag and trade them until someone started stealing them and the teachers decided to ban mechanical pencils altogether.

BBC sent a reporter to work in German pencil factory.

Purpose? To see how German manufacturing prospers even with relatively low value items.

The reporter did look a bit Jewish though.

Many on the Beeb are nowaday - Gompertz, Peston, Shukman etc., etc.

At school it was all about the Parker pen. You'd get one, sometimes for free from an insurance company and it would last for forever.

A boy from an older year once tried to mug me for the Parker my Mammy had bought me.

It didn't end well for him.

I've got a Parker Classic.  A good pen.

I hate those newfangled gel pens.  They lay down a nice line but the ink doesn't seem to ever dry.  It'll smudge an hour later.

See, that's just the sort of thing Mrs. WM would get all excited about.
