Who makes the best tassel loafer?
First post so please excuse me if this has been covered. Who makes the best tassel loafer. Over at AAAC all they talk about is Alden this and Alden that. That's fine if you can afford them, but there are some of us who can't. What's a guy to do when he doesn't know anything about shoes - help please.

You should be able to get an Allen Edmonds tassle on sale at an AE outlet or ebay etc. Dr Libourel will be able to tell you. l wouldn't go any lower quality than that. Florshiem has gone to the dogs so forget about them.

How good it is to be posting on the forum that all the other forums talk about, eh? (The more clumsy my tricks the more people fall for them! It all helps to spread the word about FNB...)
I think with Loafers you have 3 main "Looks":
English (Think Alden & everybody else)
American (Think Sebago/Bass etc)
Italian (Think Gucci etc)
If you like the Alden look but not the Alden price then these are the easiest to get at all levels of cost & quality.
I like an American look. Most people like the English look.

I think if one had to have a tassel loafer, the Alden Horace posts is the nicest looking.
However, I find tassles to be silly. Why not wear a simple slip-on? What is the meaning of this tassle?

Altho it's generally regarded as "fogey", I think the tasseled loafer can look youthful, worn in the right context. Personally, I like kiltie/tassel loafers and have a pair of Bass Weejun and John Loake "Brighton" in that configuration. Very comfortable and if I want a sleeker shoe I wear the Bass, and if I want a heavier shoe, I don't think any loafer gets more substantial looking than the Loake.
