Re: Dear Harris...

I've been banned for a lifetime from that other site and can't be bothered to switch computers. so I don't know the half of it.  I knew Harris when he was I think Skip. He is ok. I believe he went to theology school at the graduate level at one of the Ivy League places. he doesn't like to fight.

Re: Dear Harris...

His genius has been the 'fantasy' element (post RL & OPH - esque) which he's brought to the style. Perfect seductive marketing to lure newbies in. That's been his greatest contribution.
I'm more a Horace-ite (realist) than a Harris-ite (fantasist), but 'Arry is the one who brings in the punters.
Let them get into the style via Andyland Trad, grow & learn, and then move over to the Horace end of the spectrum.
I see the Harris-ite AndyTrads as valuable foot-soldiers. Their's is the take on the style that is all zeitgeisty & marketable currently.
My purist Ivy P.O.V. lacks the 'lifestyle' appeal that you need to sell ideas at the moment, so making a deal with the devil seemed the best way to promote the style. Even if it wasn't promoting it in it's most perfect form...

Re: Dear Harris...

What ho, Chum,

I have to confess that I was and am an admirer of some of the "looks" that he painted or discussed.  He had certain interesting ideas about color and pattern as well.  I think it's undeniable that he's a man with some taste.  Yes, he's bs'd around a lot, but let's not get too carried away with banging on ol' 'arry.  My humble opinion & whatnot.

Yrs in Christ,

H.

Re: Dear Harris...

Ol Chums,

Yes,, we always reckoned that ol Stink was some kind of theologian, what with all the "Trad vestaments" and "Most Trad Religion" rubbish.  Not sure he mastered the love thy neighbor or goodwill toward man part, but so be it.  Doesnt like to fight?  Puleezzze.

An entertaining enough bloke, with much to add, when he was not spouting off judgemental rubbish.

And Jacko - befores you take too much credit for honing the trad by fire, I think we should examine the status of the AAAT fora.  What with all of the stinky rehtoric over there, many many posters with knowledge of Ivy but who were not interested in creating an Internet Persona just stepped off the stage.  Go through the original trad post and see all the blokes who no longer post.  Many had real knowledge of bygone Ivy.  Was this a natural lifecycle of an internet fad, or was this because they were tired of godfathers borrowing ideas,, passing judgements, inventing histories, and whatnot.  And truths be told, I think some confusion was caused by certain fogey sideshows and whatnot.  What we are left with is a group of university blokes experimenting with a new look.  They have no real knowledge of The Look but want to be different than their chums.  No appreciation for jazz, no knowledge of post-War sensabilities,, just GTH clothes.   I propound that many will be upping to Armani or Boss or somesuch in the near future.

It would be great if we could invite all the disenfranchised back to post on Ivy/Trad without the rubbish.

Cheers,
Trip

I know that kid from way back when. It's only about clothes. It's not like it is about something important.

Re: Dear Harris...

Well hello there , against my better judgement ,I have decided to post here purely to defend myself from the false accusations laid at my door by, Jack Sparrow .

Jack how do you feel you are in a position to criticise my interpretation of Trad ,which I learnt from my father and have been wearing all my life,
when you are an English man , who by your own admitance, was unable to source many of the trad staples anywhere but the United States ,kinda Ironic no? that an English guy would think he knows better than an American about trad dressing.

Greetings Harris- I  don`t believe we have met before, I`m Cheeky Monkey.

Don`t be too hard on Uncle Jack - he`s a great supplier of porn links you know.

You may ,have kind of missed the boat on this one - if you read the forum further -you may realise that Jack has explained the trad wars and your position in them.

Re: Dear Harris...

Jack,
many thanks for the  private message, but it is evident from the amount of private messages I have recieved on the trad forum the whole thing is off, particually after recieving a pm from you know who, I have posted a rebutal of my involvement here on the trad forum and I would prefer if we could keep this pm  between us, I give you my word that I will not reveal your sock puppets over there, if you can assure me that this pm will not be transferred to the main forum.

It would appear that your idea of me posting under the same user name caused some consternation, so it looks like part 2 of your plan will have to take place without me.

regards
Harris

Re: Dear Harris...

Whatever is going on here, it's beginning to undermine the quality of the board and take on a pathological dimension which is not very appealing.

EDIT: Good for real Harris on his post on AAAC.  Time this crap came to an end.
