The idea we should be sleeping during two distinct periods during the night time hours...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segmented_sleep
I had a go at this last night as I was feeling pretty tired round half 9...went to bed till 3AM work up, chilled out on ebay for an hour or so...slipped straight back into sleep and then up at 6.30..giving me a good 8 hours sleep..and I feel great fresh as a daisy ...I awlays resist going to bed early although I always feel I should naturally fall asleep about 9pm. I think I might try and get in the habit of doing this
Anyway,
How do you sleep?
.
When I'm tired, I go to bed. Out in about 30 seconds. Wake up anywhere from 6-8 hours later and get right out of bed. It takes a lot to wake me up once I'm out. Also, I rarely remember my dreams.
I am almost always going to bed between 22:30-23:30. Usually get up around 6:30-7:00.
6 hours seems to work well for me, I 'go out like a light' according to Mrs Baby into a very deep sleep.
I have a bit of a 'wind-down' routine that certainly helps -no screens, no music (but currently experimenting with audiobooks/spoken word recordings) and all phones off.
I wake up quickly too, which really, really annoys the missus
Although occasionally its 'Business Time'....

Really envious of Jeff and yourself Acton, I am a serious insomniac. I just cannot switch off, I end up you tubing Audio books. It doesn't help me sleep but it does pass the time.
I sleep like a baby.
I wake up and cry every half hour.
As I've got older, I find I need much less sleep. I don't whether having kids calibrates your body into having less sleep, but when I was in my 20's I liked a good 8-10 hours, peferably 10. I could also fall asleep of an afternoon, anytime anyway for a couple of hours.
Now, I feel lucky if I get 6 hours and some nights during the week I expect to sleep lightly if at all, this can go on for three or four days, but then I will fall asleep in a deep sleep, but not much more than 7 or 8hrs.
Cannot sleep of an afternoon now either.
It's probably due to the diminishing Human Growth Hormone levels as you get older...also alcohol limits HGH production..ive found when I exercise which increases HGH i could just sleep the rest of the day..which is why I don't bother to exercise much anymore. .ill still do a light cycle or run..but nothing like I used to
I've been in a terrible routine for a while now, still I get about 7.5 hrs sleep. My problem is that I'm usually looking at a computer screen up until bedtime then I go to bed and sit on my phone/ listen to music for another half an hour. My alarm goes off at 7:30 but don't get out of bed before 8:00 which means I'm never early for work which hammers my flexi time. The biggest struggle for me is physically getting out of bed but once I'm up, that's me for the day.
I keep intending to ditch the electronics at least an hour before bed but it's just too hard.
