OK, for those peons among us like myself, how do you handle the ID badge (often also your key access)?
They usually come with a clip for your pocket or lapel. I know some guys who do not wear jackets clip them to their belt. One guy even uses one of those belt-clip zip-chains that you sometimes see janitors use for their keys so he can use it at access points without unclipping and clipping it constantly.
I always wear a jacket, and I find that the clip will not stay in my breast pocket properly. So I use a lanyard around my neck. Sometimes this can be a nuisance, flapping out of the jacket when I lean across a desk etc. I usually use a black one with the company logo in yellow, but I also have a plain blue one as a spare: one of those pressure sensitive ones that will unhook rather than strangle you if it gets pulled -- not sure who is expecting to have their lanyard yanked, but there you have it. The only good thing about the lanyard is that it helps keep the tie in place and can be adjusted to give the tie some lift off the shirt fabric if you fancy that sort of thing.
Self-sovereigns need not respond ...
I abandoned my lanyard and clipped my card to my lapel (if wearing a jacket) or otherwise to a belt loop.

On a retractable lanyard clipped to my belt. On my beltless trousers, I have a loop sewn on the waistband to hold the lanyard. That way it's invisible under my jacket. I really hate "dog collars" (lanyards around the neck)-looks like the wearer is "owned". If kept in a pocket, it'd probably wear a hole in pretty short order.
