Feeling socksy

I had these recommended recently: http://www.meschaussettesrouges.com/en/ Expensive but apparently very good.

Anyone recommend a good but cheaper source of socks, preferably all cotton? Searching on Ebay can take forever as what come up in searches are invariably not actually all cotton.

Re: Feeling socksy

Hi Yuca, I mentioned these guys a while back. And I keep meaning to treat myself to a pair the Pope's red socks. The OTC option in all cotton will stay up perhaps but I find you need a bit manmade fibre in there to help keep them up.

I am a big fan of Pringle: they wash well and I usually pick them up for a pittance in TK Maxx.

Get them here too:

I Googled him and apparently he's a comedian . . . I try to ignore such people. Anyway the comparison doesn't mean much to me, but I'm sure it's a compliment.

hahaha.

Careful searching for socks on eBay, Yooks, there's some disturbing stuff.

Re: Feeling socksy

Someone in Charleston sells loads of nice socks, Argyles and others. I'm still thinking about placing an order eventually, but since I always end up wearing the same pattern (out of half a dozen or so) I can't justify to shell out for any more.

Re: Feeling socksy

I was gonna suggest Corgi, plus they do a set deals which are not bad. Only had wool or the chunkier cotton ones myself but they have been great.

Uniqlo service my sock needs:

http://www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/search?qtext=men&qstart=0&qclv1=001&qclv2=001012006&qbsize

There is a much wider selection instore. It is worth splashing the extra on the £3.30 ones rather than the £2.60 models but that's it. They are a 70/30 cotton/poly mix to be fair, but I don't have sweaty feet so it doesn't bother me, it also means they are more durable and can be washed and washed.

I've tried buying more expensive socks but my experience is that they don't last any longer, sometimes less, so why bother?

Re: Feeling socksy

I was in Primark Kingston yesterday. Inexpensive khaki shorts £6.

I thought I would see if they had cheap white socks for the holiday season.

A spaced out woman complained to me about the prices. She looked like a meth addict from "Breaking Bad".

I said "They are £5 for FIVE pairs"

She replied. " I know. Robbers! I can get twice as many for that money at JJB Sports".

I wish to point out that I do not make a habit of wearing shorts or white socks.

Only when necessary.

Phew what a scorcher !!!!

Re: Feeling socksy

Thanks for the tips gents, although I don't think any of the above are all cotton, which is my preference for the summer months. I do wear wool/manmade mix in the colder months as I find all wool don't last 5 minutes, but I find all cotton last a few years, which is ok, particularly if I can get them on the cheap.

Re: Feeling socksy

This lot do some good socks, 100% cotton are quite robust too.

http://www.bexley.com/Bexley/en/r/socks_n_boxers

Corgi are great, worth a visit to the factory shop in West Wales for some big discounts on 'perfect' items plus 'seconds' and sample run stuff at give-away prices ( £2 each or '3 for a £5' on my last visit).

Re: Feeling socksy

Corgi are ok but they only make short socks.  I like them up to the knee.  The French guys mentioned above are also good, but the best socks I have are from Tabio (not cheap).

btw, is it true that sock size and shoe size are measured differently?  It doesn't seem unlikely to me as I always have to size down in socks to get ones that fit snugly and don't flop about around my toes or ankles.

Re: Feeling socksy

Just ordered the above. Bexley had a lighter tone I would have preferred but they're out of my size, however I the above look pretty good too and I'm in sore need as I've put it off for too long (my sock collection is now miniscule). Thanks for the tip off!

Re: Feeling socksy

Just came across these at the local workwear heaven. Definately not cheap but I quite like them, a chunky sport sock – mongrel. I'd wear'em with beefroll loafers or camp mocs.

Re: Feeling socksy

They look good, but perhaps still to thick / athletic looking???  Color looks promising.  May try some.   Could substitute in place of the Wiggies on occasion.  Thanks, Stanners.
