Fashion Rules for Interviews?

Hello all. I have an interview with a financial services institution and I am seeking advice on general clothes good practices about . If I missed a previous post about this I apologize in advance!

I am thinking about wearing a shirt like this: http://goo.gl/X0FyhB

And with this tie: http://goo.gl/6FwxHc

Thank you!

Re: Fashion Rules for Interviews?

Just tried them and they worked. What does it say? In general what is your fashion advice for interviews?

I'd go with a blue (navy) suit, white shirt, non-flashy tie, black shoes.  Staid and boring, but acceptable to pretty much any HR drone in the known universe.

No fashion in an interview, just stick with the tried and true.

As above.  While a checked shirt is nothing groundbreaking, there is the very real risk of it drawing an eye that should be on your face.  When they look at you, they remember you.  One can also substitute in a dark gray suit, maybe even a light blue shirt, but traditional, blandly unassuming, and professional is the desired look.
The tie is probably fine unless you find someone ancient enough to associate black with mourning.

Thanks! Is there a rule a thumb for gray vs navy suits? Are they both safe for first impressions?

Grey or blue are both fine, brown usually is avoided for interviews, never ever black.

Keep the shirt simple - white or blue, plain or subtle stripe.

Shoes black, later when experienced or knowing the situation other choices can be made.

Avoid anything wacky or too ornate.  For example a chest pocket silk handkerchief is wrong for an interview.   Simple choices rarely go wrong.

You want people to think your look is okay but not stand out, its you they are interviewing.

Re: Fashion Rules for Interviews?

Depends on many things, expectations of the interviewers including their prejudices, especially sartorial ones. I made that mistake once, it's well documented, I turned-up for an interview in an Italian suit and the country manager had a t-shirt, sneakers and Casio watch and looked at me and sneered: I was his de facto image of a hoho. Which was particularly annoying as I had already been through three interviews by that stage.

Sartorial issues aside, be wary of this style of interview, it means you're being interviewed by a HR professional(s) who knows nothing of the job and position in hand, your mission is always to avoid them and proceed beyond them to the next level, where you will hopefully be interviewed by someone who wants to see how you will bond on a work's night out:

Re: Fashion Rules for Interviews?

I wore it and the interviewers really did not seem to care! Of course I wore a navy blue suit so the shirt and tie were simply complementary. I am scheduled for a 2nd interview! Now I have some khaki trousers.

@Worried Man, it is acceptable to wear navy blazer and different colored bottoms? I have some Van Huesen trousers I'd like to wear.

The Donald looks like he's sporting the remains of a shiner in that picture.

Somebody belt him or is he just puffy?

Re: Fashion Rules for Interviews?

Not I bet they discuss your outfit on AAAC and give it a thumbs up and then discuss how to stick their thumbs in your suithole.
I mean, you are gay, arent you?
No offense, nowadays that is quite an advantage ,

Re: Fashion Rules for Interviews?

I've found myself in many situations where I thought, "Man, if I were only gay."
