This is why London is going to shit...people think it's about money, what it actually about is class...you see this in the 1910s and 20s with all the American industrialist coming over here and trying to sell off there daughters to the titled and privileged. The Americans were seen as brash and lacking any class. ... a bit like how the Russians and Arabs are seen in London by the old school Brits... all that remains is to sell the idea of Britishness to the Chinese, etc as brands and lifestyles they can buy into, and anyone standing to make any money off the back of them bend iver backwards. Where as Hep hints at a Ralph Lauren logo might cost more than some scruffy old Tattersal shirt that some has had for 20 odd years...but its the tattersal that has the authenticity and place..it's a strange set up.

Its probably only the queen and the royal family that keeps the upper classes relevant.

Actually the argument and reality is that the "upper classes" are the ones skewing reality. I don't anyone could possibly argue good behavior wouldn't exist without the British Aristocracy and keep a straight face.
