Another aspect of the European take on Trad is it's inclusive element & maybe slightly 'outsider' status - This is where I get the Gay & Jewish connections coming in very strongly in European Ivy.
Jazz sems to be a constant in all the European Ivy scenes I have come across, whatever other groups have also influenced the respective scenes.

In a way Ivy is a stopped clock in Europe - we saw it at what I consider to be its peak and we stayed true to that interpretation of the style.

Back home in the US Ivy carried on changing and developing & left us behind.
This is why we Europeans find ourselves with a bit of a clash of cultures when we encounter the current American take on its own traditional clothes.
We find it hard to reconcile our cool, easy-going but ultra-smart look with much that we read on various forums. Purely because we are out of touch, separated by not just geography but, in a sense, by time also.
Trad is what it currently IS in America. In Europe Trad is what it WAS.
And yet, oddly,  American Trad is the 'nostalgic' look - evoking a lost past, while European Trad is Trad in aspic - forever preserved as a youthful, lively alternative to (for example) traditional Savile Row in London. An odd business.

I wonder if I am making sense? My thinking is always much clearer than my writing!

I'd be very surpised if Miles was wearing Paul Stuart.  He'd been shopping at the Andover Shop in Cambridge at this time.  Like many others, he was buying his clothes from the same guy who continues to run the shop today.
