Re: Throughly Modern

I think they're best left to sports wear I wouldn't wear those with formal clothes as a full-time substitute for shoes. Would for the gym though, even though I'm an Addias man meself.

I remember reading that professional women, in Manhattan often go to work in trainers and change at the office. I can understand that, I've done it meself...

A lot of research goes into designing sports shoes, bio-mechanics and all. Interesting subject...its a branch of structural mechanics.

IIRC, Prada attempted to make the sportshoe aesthetic acceptable outside the gym. Didn't work in my opinion...

The late Peter Cook used to wear trainers (Reebok) with his suits...as did Phil Collins...

Re: Throughly Modern

^ during that period ( while Rugby Union was still amateur) you'd have high-backs from Patrick, Le Coq Sportif and Incontinence pants as the main players.
The Incontinence pants ( black with flouro yellow three-stripe) and Le Coq Sportif were developed using French Government sporting grants and research facilities, and have experimental stud/cleat placement ( epitomised by the now illegal single stud at the front boot, or 'face gougers' as they were known) and different material making up the high-back depending on the role of the player.
This is the same fund which paid for Air France developed 'robot' scrummaging machine that the French team used before the last world cup.
