Re: Neo-Trads.

^ No, no - This is all fascinating stuff. I've just been having a ramble on the 'Boom Years' thread too...

The idea of Ivy as an 'elite' look but one open to anyone who wanted it is (I think) what we're starting to agree on.
There's a John Simons quote about America having no traditions so they gave everybody a tradition through the Ivy style.
It's egalitarian and elite at the same time. Another unique aspect of the style maybe?

But the 'elite' aspect is just marketing, no?
Because if it's open to you and me and any Joe in the street then it isn't elite. See what I mean?

- Must go & do some work - Back later - I'm loving all this - Thanks -

Re: Neo-Trads.

A p.s. upon further reflection and another drink,,

I do see where the use of the word "elite" causes different interpretations and trouble.   Jack's prior posts on New Wasps and about how truly rich or elite often do not care what others think of their clothes, was genious.  I agree that ivy was always more mainstream and perhaps aspirational.
