Patrick, I was vociferous in my hatred of that song at some point earlier on the forum. Sickeningly bad.
The song's horribleness is only exceeded by the maenads there who actually know the lyrics and proudly display their knowledge. I'm all for animal rights under most circumstances, but here I'd just say you have to put them all down for the good of the species.
started listening because of the sick new word "ghorribaneous" and went from chilled to unpleasantly agitated in exactly three seconds, as soon as jackass #1 started galloping across the stage .... this thing is ass ..... even the Aussie stripper girls can't salvage this .....
Jesus now they're putting their taint on Tear the Roof Off the Sucker and Baby Got Back ....
uuuurrrrggggghhhhhh
By visiting public spaces you put yourself in the position of having to endure horrible music. ...That is, if you have good taste in music. I guess the multitudes either don't mind it or they actually like it, God help their poor souls. I've learned to block it out for the most part, but once in a while it gets in. These next examples are songs I've heard recently that made me want to inflict physical damage on my immediate surroundings, including my own person. I feel like I'm going against some fundamental law of human nature by even posting this stuff on here.
I've been unfortunate enough to encounter these two songs TWICE in one week!!
This is apparently a really hot fucking number at the moment. The retro '50s rock and roll treatment really bugs me, in much the same way "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Crocodile Rock" really get under my skin.
Meghan Trainor - Dear Future Husband

This next song may be some of the worst garbage I've ever heard. The lyrics are abhorrent. I can't fucking take it!!
Hot Chelle Rae - Tonight Tonight

A) "Goodnight Irene" was never a particularly good song.
B) Just because everybody and her uncle covered it doesn't make it better
C) There was absolutely no need for Keith Richards to add this version to the toxic hubbub of a distressed world:

Journey - Who's Crying Now
... the answer is: me, whenever I hear that thing .........
f*ing Journey
Major Lazer - Powerful
powerfully nauseating
It was 25 years ago today that Sit Down by James was recorded (or released - I can't remember even though I only saw it a few seconds ago). One of the most annoying tunes ever recorded, and completely ubiquitous in the late 80s and early 90s. Plus loads of people - or rather loads of students - used to wear horrendous James t shirts. I still feel ill thinking about it. The depths that humanity sinks to.
/\
I'd forgotten the baffling popularity of James with students of that era. And yes indeed, the t-shirts were if anything even more irritating than the song. It was a close run thing, though.
I didn't realise you had to suffer that crap over in the US as well. At least Robbie Williams has never made it big over there - over here for many years loads of people, even including hot women, thought he was great. Of course his music is complete and utter shite - and that is the possibly the biggest understatement of all time. In fact I'd rather listen to Sit Down twice than Angels or any other Robbie Williams track.
(Fortunately I've been able to avoid either for some time.)
I think James "Laid" was the really popular tune over here in the US. I don't recall "Sit Down". But "Laid" was unavoidable for quite some time.
Genesis
Have I mentioned Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Getting Back Together." ? It still blows chunks.
With the immortal chorus "We-eee! are never ever ever ever ever ever/ Getting back together/ Wee-ee!"
I got a copy of "No New York" the other day. I had it decades ago. Guess what? It's awful. Unlistenable. Anybody who tries to justify this shit on avant-garde grounds should be sentenced to listen to it and nothing else for a year. Then tell me how goddamn visionary it is.
At least the Contortions resemble a band. The rest is Pure Poop for Poseurs.

/\ Patrick, haha No New York ... they couldn't give that record away ..... did you have to pay more than 50ยข for it? I'm sorry you had to hear it .......
I still like 'No New York', but Patrick you're not wrong about the Contortions being the only act to have stood the test of time.
It's horribly recorded and (very) badly mastered album ,but it does give an overview of the origins and influences of some of the more interesting musicians to emerge from the New York scene of the late 70's and 80's.
Arto Lindsay,
Lydia Lunch,
Ikue Mori,
Glenn Branca ( even tho' his tracks with The Theoretical Girls were left off the album)
The main legacy of that scene in New York was to provide an environment for the art/rock/noise sound scene to thrive and even provide a base for the weirder dance/disco orientated music on Ze , 99 and Sleeping Bag Records.
As a document of a time in New York it's great, but I'm with you Patrick on it's not the most listenable record.
PS
sell it on eBay/Discogs for a nice profit and grab yourself some stuff by Guided By Voices
I felt the same way rereading "On the Road" as I did rehearing "No New York."
I'm glad to have it in the collection, though. A good record collection should have some super-weird items.
Madonna's Give Me All Your Luvin' is the definition of vacuous
Regarding songs I hate:
My dear brother has been posting his phone-camera vids from the Bruuuuce concert he went to last week in Denver. He loves the boss. I watch the videos because they're like watching the proverbial train wreck.
Now I have to say I don't begrudge anybody's taste in anything. There is no accounting, right? Glass houses and all that. But this guy just continues to creep me out. And the audience--good grief. As white as white can get. A bunch of post-frat balding dudes and post-sorority white babes. And weirdly it seems all through the show the house lights never dimmed. Maybe they keep the lights on to keep all the fogey fans awake?

I heard this a few days ago in a store and it made me want to pull my nose hairs out with tweezers.
