Oxy and Ackee, thanks very much for recommending the Fever Tree Ginger Beer, damn is that stuff good!  just had a bottle of it with my meatball sub, I'm blissing out!  tops!

Yesterday I had San Daniele prosciutto on a crusty mini-baguette with Greek olives and Tuscan peppers on the side, with a large cranberry juice to drink and to keep things from getting crazy Euro ......

about to go into a meeting but when I'm done at 3 or 4 I will be peckish and will have something tasty .... dunno yet, what the provender will will depend on traffic but I'm getting out of downtown early today ... sagging off work early as you lot say .....

Ever eat at the Chicken Pie Shop? The Lime Lite? The Brig? Shepherd's Inn? Kaya?

There's lots of great seedy mid century dives and old derelict dimly-lit cocktail lounges with cool neon signage like the Luau, Tokyo Garden, New China, Basque Hotel, etc. Plus mid-century motel row (aka the meth motor courts) on Golden State Blvd! The Central Valley is an infernal pit of torment (no offense!) but I love driving the Southwestern stretch of highway towards the southern Sierra Nevada (usually bound for Sequoia & King's Canyon) for all the great vanishing mid-mod restaurants and ruins between Merced and Bridgeport.

There's Latif's in Turlock. The Branding Iron in Merced. Wool Growers and Los Banos Rexall Drug Co. in Los Banos. The great Rodeo Coffee Shop Fountain in Clovis. Chuck Wagon in Sanger. And Bakersfield is a Bastion of mid 20th C. restaurants and bars: Andre's Giant Burgers, KC Steakhouse, Luigi's, Noriega's, Wool Growers (again!), Woolworth's Luncheonette, Rice Bowl, Hodel's Country Dining, Mexicali, Sal's Mexican Restaurant, Los Tacos De Huicho, 24th Street Cafe, Cope's Knotty Pine Cafe, J's Place, Dewar's Candy Shop, Ethel's Old Corral, Frank Amestoy's Cocktails, Guthrie's Alley Cat, The Mint, Pyrenees Cocktails and the great Kern County Museum and Pioneer Village and grand dame Fox Theater! Then there's Kelcy's, Burger Spot, Red House BBQ, Village Grill, and Apple Shed in Tehachapi. The General Store and Opera House Cafe in Randsburg. Nicely's in Lee Vinning. Pines Cafe in Independence. And last stop is Lone Pine: Margie's Merry Go-Round, Frosty Chalet, Alabama Hills Cafe and Bakery, The Mt. Whitney, Totem Cafe, Bonanza Family Restaurant, Whitney Portal Store and Jake's Saloon!
