Similarly, Pink Floyd should have called it a day after the honking finish to "Bike."

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

Well dang, check out the beginning of this clip from John Cage;s "Indeterminacy."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lOMHUrgM_s

In college I discovered this LP box set in the library, and we played the crap out of it, finding it hilarious. (We were stoned most of the time, as if I really need to mention it.)

Anyway, on the CD version, it's impossible to find the snippets that I found most amusing and that I used to isolate and put on mix tapes for comic relief.

The one I liked best was about Isamu Noguchi, who said an old shoe would look beautiful in this room. Then there is a silence, and the next story starts "You probably know the one about the two monks, but I'll tell it anyway."

When you are 20 years old and high on dirt weed and Genesee Cream Ale this is some deep shit.

Lo and behold, the Isamo Noguchi > two monks is right at the top of the this clip! Saves me hours of listening.

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

^ I'm supposed to be recording a 'realisation' of 'Indeterminacy' at Cafe OTO in London sometime this month.
The comedian Stewart Lee is involved along with the great and good of the London free-improv scene and a load of 'black roll neck wearing' modern composition types.

For my sins I always get 'rostered on' for these type gigs smile

In high school we used to smoke pot, drink Bud tallboys and crank this up

If we called each other at home, "I am resplendent in divergence" meant "let's go get high".

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

Well, nothing too outlandish to report but I can say I have been having a good time spinning through my Wayne Shorter Blue Note LPs. I sometimes think I enjoy him more than 'Trane, overall. An amazing composer and player who brought together some great groups.

... and furthermore, and before I forget.... I notice my local record shop now has a copy of Sun Ra's Space is the Place in stock on reissued vinyl. I've always wanted that one.

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

Night Dreamer was his first record on Blue Note, circa 65. Lee Morgan's on there McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones. Great band. As good as JuJu and Speak No Evil, in my opinion.

^ I first saw them in 1973, I think, opening for CS&N.

Myself, the locals have turned me on to Tame Impala.
