I'm wearing my beefroll Weejuns today. Ever so humble but still good enough for me. I have to admit, thought, I toy with the idea of springing for some better, i.e., more expensive ones.

The standard penny loafer is on the New Peter last... F would be a bit narrow.

My problem with 'humble' loafers is that aside from my occasional loafer wear and a couple of months in the summer when I wear desert boots, I pretty much live in gunboats. So wearing cheap leather really feels incongruous to me. On the other hand I like my loafers to be as light as possible, and I don't know whether better quality ones would be heavier. Plus I would have to pay for them, which could be problematic.

The ones I would get would be C&J (the HTJ influence, plus the fact that they are easily available over here), Rancourts (maybe the JS version) or AE. I imagine all (or maybe not the C&J) are more casual than Vass. Really I want light enough to dance in but with decent leather comparable to my Florsheim and AE gunboats. And casual enough to go with standard ivy kit i.e. chinos, flannels, cords etc.
Whether I would ever actually go for cordovan (i.e. the leather) loafers is doubtful.

Plus that don't mash up my feet - if I wear my vintage Florsheims regularly they cause pain; I'm too used to decent footwear. Better quality loafers still won't have much support of course - obviously by definition they're lightweight slip ons.

AE gunboats are ok, but not as good as vintage Florsheim gunboats ime. AE loafers look nice, and are (conversely) probably better than vintage Florsheim loafers.

Vintage Florsheim Imperials seem to be unbelievable quality. My own gunboats are a cheaper line (Signature Series) and they still are FAR better than most stuff from today in a similar price range...

The vintage Florsheims Imperials I picked up last year are an excellent shoe and the guy who resoled them used the JR leather sole on them. Same leather soles I see on the Vass website. That was great to see!
