Re-listening to Oh Woman Oh Why, again!, via the link above, I am blown away--again! Probably his best, in my opinion. Makes me wanna run home and slap that thing on the turntable.
There was a lot of Stones talk earlier. Probably has a lot to with my age, but there are few bands that I consider more overrated. The Zombies are where it is at.
On to the Beatles. I listen to this version of Strawberry Fields on the regular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcCMGkYpSMs

I agree w/ you, Ox, on the Stones--except for those great years with Mick Taylor in the band. I sometimes think his skill on the guitar pushed the others a bit, even in their songwriting. After '73, though, yeah, all downhill.
I also think for some of us, as much as I hate the phrase, that allure of the Stones from that time had much to doing with the "you had to be there" phenomenon. What they were doing fit the vibe of the times.

stanshall, some of my favorite Stones LPs are boots circa 1970 through 1973. I have the famous Brussels recordings in a couple iterations, and they are truly wonderful.
& yes, dance band is what they were.
You mention Black and Blue. Not many fans like that one, but I really dig it, especially Hot Stuff and Memory Hotel.
