This West Ham story only got major news coverage because all the local TV news channels were covering the match for local-interest 'puff piece's about the last match at the ground,
There were loads of camera teams around the outside of the ground to gather vox-pops and do interviews etc.
This co-incidence lead to there being so much coverage of the incident, as for a change they actually had people on the ground when it happened.

A mate was there to film a load of dignitaries and ex-players for BBC London News and got some of footage that the BBC then used on the National News later that night.

We shouldve won it this year...when you look at the main contenders it shouldve been our year but we choked, and that really got to the fans...then Spurs looked like theyre going to take bragging rights as well..it didnt look good...an insult too far...some how the Toon did what they did today..after they went down to 10 men I thought we would be third...but they put in a belter of a performance as they go down to division 1. And we did the work at Villa...all in all its just great to see Spurs choke worse than us...it wouldve been awful to have put up with that over the summer

Hard lines Marlowe, they didn't perform for the last few games. Spurs looked world beaters before then. We were dead lucky at your place in the league TBF. Hope you finish runners up next season mate behind us. Think Utd will be the team to watch next season. I wonder if Mata will be sold? To Arsenal maybe? Now their not getting Vardy. Filbert Fox has f¤cked them off as well.

Look at Wenger's happy little French face knowing that Spurs fluffed it...arf. It was a hilarious end to the season, Spurs choking worse than we did, seeing all the lights turn off in the Spurs fans houses...now I see they're creeping back out after a month. Get back inside Marlowe the shame should still be too much to bear.
