I remember visiting my cousins around 1970 or so and hearing them geek all over the place about their 8-tracks, telling me I needed to replace all my LPs with them. It was uncanny hearing the same kind of thing when CDs came out. These days I'm glad I stuck with my old-fashioned records.

So many good ones! Wild Horses! Probably my favorite song by anyone, anytime, hands down. First time I heard it, on AM, shortly after it came out, I felt like I had to get my hands on an acoustic guitar and learn how to play. It was one of the first songs I learned to play start to end.
What Is Life. Happy. No Matter What. Baby Blue. Wow, what memories those bring back.

/\ Wild Horses was plugged into the cosmos it's true, a very beautiful song .... hanging out with Gram Parsons .....
Yep. I was disappointed with the Stones for not continuing the Parsons/country vibe post-Exile. They could have made much stronger albums that way. In fact, I think they could have had a whole new interesting thing as a country-rock band instead of becoming the parody of a rock band as they did.
well, there were a couple more countryesque tunes out of them after Gram but it was Keith's thing really, and he checked out for a long while .....
they were still interested in country I think, e.g., Till the Next Goodbye, but remained more focused on soul/R&B
they never quite finished their version of We Had It All but they did come up with Far Away Eyes, my favorite track on Some Girls (followed by Before They Make Me Run)
True. Love Til the Next Goodbye. I want to like Faraway Eyes, and I find it amusing, but it really verges on parody--intentionally, I'm sure--whereas the SF and Exile-era songs sound sincere.
/\ bang on, it was the sincerity that never in my opinion reappeared after Black and Blue ... Far Away Eyes is in the long tradition of jokey country songs by country artists like Red Sovine, I've always loved it, but most people ignored it ....
/\ Stretchin' Out in Bootsy's Rubber Band ftw
Chakachas roool!
Norman Whitfield everything.
Barry White's drummers, including Ed Greene and Alvin Taylor.

Just reading about Jim Sullivan... bit of a sad tale culminating in his disappearance in the early 70s.. lovely sound on this title track from his 1st album.. UFO
