Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Thanks fellas!

The weird thing is that it's tagged 7 5/8 but measures 23" circumference, which doesn't add up. I suppose it could be mislabeled. I've seen that on a few vintage hats and I imagine it was pretty easy to mistakenly stitch the wrong label on when this was all done by hand on a factory line. I'm typically a 7 1/8, but I've found that doesn't mean much with vintage flat caps. Hopefully the back buckle will come in handy and I'll give that self-adhesive stuff a try if it still feels loose.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

And by literally every size, I mean he's got a stockpile of NOS trousers ranging from youth sizes to 40+ in various lengths; some unfinished. He's got a warehouse full of old Levis, Lees, Dee Cee, Campus, Sedgefield, Hubbard, etc. Some decent bermuda shorts, possibly even a few Indian madras numbers too. Shoes, denim, etc. All DEADSTOCK. It's amazing how sjitty his Etsy store is, in light of this. At least his prices are kosher. I'll take reasonable cost over professional detailed listings any day. : )

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Jesus, I posted link to this seller back end of December, have you been living in a mercer bubble? Plenty of other forum-ites have purchased off this seller, I got all my Leesures from John - sound seller and great service, even if his listing as confusing as hell and photos taken on a 90s startac mobile!

Come on Olive catch up. wink

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Haha, I guess I've just stepped out of my Mercer bubble.

I must've been hip to this guy's stuff because I bought a pair of Main Sails a few years ago and there is just no mistaking his listings for anyone else's. Perhaps I was overwhelmed by the format.

Has anyone pulled the trigger on any Dee Cee Trads from this guy; what's the word on these??

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I doubt you you'll go wrong with a pair, John will give you any details in a message too. I think Half Mast might have picked up a pair of the Dee Cee's - I went for the Leesures as knew these would be the right cut. Got a watch on several other pairs hahaha.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I agree with Oliver that this guy's website/ etsy shop is horrible but I can't agree with Tom about the seller. I had a bad experience with him. It took awhile to figure out, from the listing and photos but I picked a pair of Lee cords. I emailed him and asked him the waist measurement across the front for the size 30 I wanted. He responded 15 inches. When I got them they were 13 1/2 ". When I emailed him to request a refund/ return he didn't respond so I opened a case. He kept insisting they were 15 ". I sent photos with the tape measure on them and then he said he measures them on a sewing table or something. I sent him several lincs from different sellers and ebay on how to measure pants, (laid flat , across the front etc etc) He finally gave in ( I didn't get postage) Just a heads up,  looks like he has a lot of cool vintage stuff but I wouldn't take a chance again.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

/\ looked through that Etsy shop, as a public service message to you all out there, there are barely any size 34 waists left in good slacks so if that's what you're after, don't bother at the moment .....

however, for those with a size 30 waist, you might still get lucky ...... if you're very skinny

I did find a couple of good things here and there, but no good Sta-Prests or Leesures, they've been well picked over, and overall it's not easy to make your way through those messy listings ... very few details are provided, the photos couldn't be blurrier, returns are not accepted .........

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I wrote him for specs the other day and gave up based on his responses. I take it that English is not his first language. He basically guessed the measurements on a pair of olive twills that I expressed interest in, saying that all his pants "are at least 12.5 rise and about 7 hem" and then he gave me some script about them being "true vintage". I decided not to bother with anything else after receiving that response.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

You've just reminded me that I was looking at some Wrangler jeans he had for sale way back in January. I'm sure he offered me a discount which turned out to be the price they were listed at! I don't think that was the reason why I never purchased them though.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

I've had some real bargains from MitchAmericanVintagein the past  -  some Hubbard 'Ivy' slacks, Leesures and a cracking pair of h.i.s.  cords -
but he's a nightmare to deal with and his prices have been creeping up recently.

As it's mostly deadstock my technique was to just ask for pics of any labels and not bother getting any measurements from him.

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

/\  going to drop him a line, I found  a pair of jeans and possibly some footwear I liked, but I never buy anything unless I can return it if it doesn't work out, otherwise it seems a bit unreasonable to me given the prices of the things I liked, which are higher than similar good recent scores of mine .... his prices aren't bad though

on the bellbottoms, flared disco jeans, Kalso Earth Shoes, cord and sherpa motorcycle vests, and Wallabee-analogue boot scene this guy is the king

unfortunately he's all out of my sizes in those things too, not just the Sta-Prests, Dee Cees, and Leesures

nabbed a subtle Brooks Brothers Makers broadcloth buttondown collar long-sleeved shirt in an uncommon triple pencil stripe/track stripe in light brown/gold on white late last night courtesy of my source in MI1, cheers Bengal!
