Re: The Rolling Rocks

You're right, stanshall. God! You put together a virtual mix-tape of the best days of my teen years! I might have to use that list and actually make a tape for the old hi-fi system. (I actually have about 90 percent of what you listed on 45s, most with picture sleeves. I might add a McCartney and Ringo single or two at the tail end of that. Possibly also Instant Karma and Cold Turkey.)

One area the Stones failed to delivery was cover art, aside from a few notable exceptions, specifically Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main St., and possibly Some Girls. I always thought most of their LP covers looked tossed off--at best, interesting band photos, but mainly just ugly or ill-conceived and badly done art, e.g., Let It Bleed.

Re: The Rolling Rocks

/\  haha, I had all of them, the green Apple label had me completely hypnotized and so did the cut, white side ....

I love Cold Turkey now though it was too scary and downbeat for me then, but I flipped for Instant Karma instantly back then, today it's still is fantastic as could be to me, just magic.

to be resumed shortly but Stones LP covers were too spotty, as spotty as Keith's young face, yet there were high highs .....

more on this later

Re: The Rolling Rocks

Only good thing about Some Girls was the cover! Which admittedly was awesome, I still have it somewhere.

Re: The Rolling Rocks

I like a few songs on Some Girls. It is a spotty album though.

Re: The Rolling Rocks

stanshall, I meant to mention earlier that you have a knack for finding the best images, things I've never noticed before.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking on the box this morning. Sublime.

Re: The Rolling Rocks

I liked how they aligned themselves with a few great visual artists for a while.

I store my two SF copies in those cardboard LP mailing boxes to prevent damage from the zippers. I have both an original U.S. and U.K pressing. Bragging rights. The U.K. pressing sounds better, nicer vinyl, and the graphics are better.

Re: The Rolling Rocks

Listening to Get Yer Ya Yas Out this morning. "Stray Cat Blues" suddenly sounds very perv-y to me. It never bothered me when I was a kid, even in college. Now that line about "I know you're just 13 years old..." Um, what the hell, Mick?
