Re: NASA Ivy

I know where there are so Harpo if you want.

Nice to see them in what look like some nice Radolf eyewear, which brings me to a "can you get replacement lenses for Randolf opticals"?

Re: NASA Ivy

Cheers Chris - do they just do sunglasses lenses, I don't need optics. Probably my error in using the word opticals at the end of the question.

Okay, bud. Pump the brakes. Just because you don't personally like something doesn't mean you have to be rude.

Re: NASA Ivy

The majority of these guys were USAF/USMC/USN pilots... They wore the flight jackets and AOs because it was part of the uniform. That's not a Tom Cruise look... the Top Gun look is imitating them.

Anyway, I'm not sure what makes something a "gay look"... Feel free to enlighten me

Re: NASA Ivy

That green jacket with an orange lining is a B-15, introduced by the USAF during the Korean War. And cowboy cut jeans and cowboy hats mean a very different thing in the United States than they do in the UK, home to enough Americana copycats to fill a yearlong run of Japanese menswear magazines. NASA guys like Jim Irwin wore these clothes because it was the style they were born into, or the style they grew into over years of being stationed in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico and the like.

First of all, c'mon, man. You really think all gay people dress like the Village People?

Second of all, the Village People played on Americana stereotypes. These style stereotypes were used in the gay community in the 70s and 80s because they spoke to a rugged style and masculinity that appealed to that community. But there's a big difference between that intentionally campy look and its inspiration, which could include the the geological field trip photos or the B-15 jackets.

And even if the cowboy look, or the motorcycle look, or whatever, was an inspiration for that look from the gay community - who cares? You really needed to point that out? And that's supposed to say what? That it isn't Ivy because it's "gay"? That it's not worth our time?

Re: NASA Ivy

So I'm not supposed to say it looks a bit gay to me?
