Many shirts or few

How many shirts do you keep in your wardrobe, laundered and ironed, so ready to wear, at the same time?

I am currently trying a new operational shirt strategy having only 7 (each for every day of the weak) in a L&I mode.

Re: Many shirts or few

Few, but l am overdue for some custom shirts and am going to build up my collection. I actually rang my shirt maker today. Shirts are the weakest part of my wardrobe at the moment because l haven't had time to devote to having something made, + rtw shirts generally don't inspire me so l haven't bought many shirts in years.

I own more jumpers than l do shirts LOL. I own farrr more shoos than l own shirts LOL. I own more coats than l do shirts LOL>

Shirts are awesome so they need to be done right.

Always telling myself "just a few classics". But I own a lot of crap still don't own some of the "classics".
And then again, one can't have enough white shirts as a Doc.

Re: Many shirts or few

A number of times I've considered getting rid of everything except for a few classic shirts, or only wearing one colour, but in the end, my lust and greed for more keeps me wanting more, much more. There's always a little further onward, a new sartorial mission.

Ironed, one to three.  Total is likely between two to three dozen total, which is both superfluous and lacking.

Re: Many shirts or few

Well - my question was about how many  "laundered and ironed, so ready to wear,"

A freshly washed and ironed shirt stays "fresh" for how long?

Re: Many shirts or few

^Now that makes sense! Would it not stay indefinitely fresh with enough room?

On the basis of laundered and iron, etc, seven sounds about right, unless you are me.

Dust accumulates after a couple months.  Depending on  the HVAC, heat and moisture variations tend to take a certain effect too.  I'm not fastidious with hanger spacing, so shirts end up smashed with new wrinkles at some point.  If there is exposure to smoke or other odors, that will take a toll too.

I always have good intentions about having enough shirts ironed and ready to go to last me the week at work. However I almost invariably end up ironing the next days shirt late at night in the spare room that I have designated as my dressing room.

Usually between around fifty and none at all. Then I have to spend a few long sessions pumping iron.

Your plan sounds realistic enough if your shirts are for businesswear but I would factor in an extra two or three shirts in case of stains.

I iron them when I need them, so like woofster I invariably end up ironing next days shirt in the evening.

Re: Many shirts or few

Bought 9 Mason Ward rtw shirts to cover me over for the moment. They are not the bold striped shirts l normally like, but these will do until l can make the interstate trip to see my shirt maker.

I try to iron and wash my clothes each evening so l am always up to date with my clothes. I always wash my clothes by hand and do it each evening so the workload is minimal.

btw, i've been washing my sox by hand since l was about 14.

None, I iron after I've selected the one I'm going to wear. Sometimes I change my mind and then iron another one which means that I'll wear the one I ironed first next. If I don't I'll most likely have to iron it again because I too many shirts crammed together on hangers. I'd say at least 30 of them I'll never wear again but if I throw them out I'll only buy more or put the ones still in boxes that I haven't worn yet (six months plus) on hangers. Pathetic really.

Krusty's strategy of sending all his shirts out makes a good deal of sense now, compared to some of the complications outlined in this thread.

^My sentiments exactly. Either that, or have your friendly mother-in-law come and stay with you for extended periods.

One of my bosses use to arrange to meet his mum at a motorway service station and she would then take his shirts to be washed and ironed.

Re: Many shirts or few

I have at least 30. I like multiples of things I like, e.g., I have three Brooks blue ocbds, and I like variety, e.g., stripes of different kinds, different colors, various patterns like tattersal and plaids, and the like. They're for different contexts, too--some are more workaday office shirts, some are more casual, and so on.

In other words, one can never have too many shirts.

Just keep in mind, anything other than a button-down is for lounge lizards.
