One of the early English OCBD wearers who is no stranger to the US and loves to make fun of the Locust Vally Lockup.

I vote - Yes!

Re: Jonathan Miller: shabby Brit style...

Good post Tony. l can see the beauty in his shabby style. At least it is a style, a style that beats the clothing that 95% of people wear today (NO STYLE!!!).

Re: Jonathan Miller: shabby Brit style...

I think Jonathan Miller does have a great and  very personal and singular  style. It`s a very recognisable look and style which really suits Jonathan Miller the man in my opinion.  I think he really carries off his own look with aplomb. They are clearly very beautiful clothes he wears; the shapeless tweed sportscoats with elbow patches ,  the luxurious cords, and knitwear .

I really don`t imagine that he`s a prolific spender on his clothing .He may even be quite practical-minded about those choices of his but rather that he buys quality pieces that he knows will work for him and will suit Jonathan Miller the individual. He clearly get`s the wear out of those beautiful clothes that he has bought and that`s what adds to  the endearing and disarming charm of his very personal style to my mind.

He`s a keenly intelligent  man , nay an intellectual who went up to Cambridge and then precociously took `Beyond the Fringe` to New York as a very young man.Despite all this i really believe he`s a very warm, affable, unpretentious, and un-snobby man, (as only the truly cool and great ever seem to be..) and i think his style is actually quite disarmingly endearing.Rather like a schoolboy with his tie askew and shoe laces undone (!).He`s clearly seen and done alot over the course of his lifetime.I really believe the man himself is truly `Sussed`.`Sussed` in what he`s subtly saying sartorially with his clothing, and `Sussed` about life and all it`s many paradoxes, conundrums and B.S. Just look into those very wise eyes of his...!

There`s still a little bit of defiance, subversiveness and rebeliousness in that clothing he wears so well. His worn -in rustic tweedy sportscoats , and well worn cords and jumpers act as a romantic and refreshing  antidote to so much of the B.S. and crassness of modern society. He seems to me be someone who`s entirely at one and at ease with himself, and someone who`s highly comfortable with his own personal style that he`s cultivated over many years .I `d even go so far as to say there`s an endearing integrity about Jonathan Miller the man aswell as Jonathan Miller the sartorialist.I think that`s why he wears the look so well. I should think his style has evolved very, very gradually as he too `the person` has evolved.

Here a swelled edge, there a button-down... He often wears slack jackets too.

Very North London Anglo-Ivy!
