I think a bit of perspective may be wanted here. The great majority of AAAT members couldn't care less about FNB, the Trad Wars, or Harris's parentage, and are only looking for a place to buy a decent pair of loafers. You may find them pitiable, but I don't see your crowd as much of an improvement. Whenever things get too quiet for your tastes, you drop in over there, stir up a bit of trouble, then sit back and criticize everyone who reacts, assuming (mistakenly I think), that by posting a comment, they necessarily feel some real investment in the argument. Presumably, all of this is justified because you really care about the style, whereas they're all a bunch of poseurs.
Yes of course, to those who grew up in or around the style (no, I won't call it Trad), much of what's posted over there is ridiculous, rather like an ant trying to describe the landscape over which it crawls. But the fact that an entire MB is devoted to critiquing AAAT is more than ridiculous. And that you -- a Brit! -- want Trad defined in a way that suits your own conception of American style, is patently absurd. I wonder, have you ever been to the US?
Brings to mind a song, actually:
Trying to be too bad
Trying to talk too tough
Trying to Jack_the_Lad
You'd think he'd had enough
But he's not the man you'd think that he can be
I just don't know why you can't see
That he is only the imposter ...
Cheers,

^ Good site.
What a crazy thread this became, over the weekend. I still think those who insist on "trad" is only available to true Americans, are insular fools.
I love you - You're such a fish - You always rise to the bait!
In 2007 your clothes are Trad on the Internet.
In 2003 they would have been called Ivy League by those who knew their stuff.
I don't believe that your clothes would be called Trad today by non-Internet people.
... And I think that's fantastic.
- The power of the Internet to influence what internet people think & do!
On other sites I've encourage people to drink each other's urine as a prelude to sex and to post photographs of their wives wearing shoes on their breasts.
... I love the Net!
If you love Trad then you love me. Equally, if you hate Trad then you love me. I'm in charge of Trad never forget!
No gratitude is due to me at all. Thank Gomie - His idea to take over Trad. My idea to do so to try to boost the reality of the old American style which is now bastardised & called Trad.
Southern Trad et al is a great laugh. I love it too. The more Trads of every kind the better - But we do need to educate them all now. Make them sharper. Phase Two, doncha know.
My views on Ivy aren't actually out there because both here & there and under all the names I use and have used which you know & don't know I've never really gone in for the Harris style 'Gospel According To Me'. All you will get from reading my stuff is my taste for forum-fucking.
It's a growing sport you know...
I love Harris being the Godfather - We put him there. He is one of our funniest jokes.
Post whenever you want to & wherever you want to - It's all good. There are no Trad wars -
Just fun, fun, fun -

What a strange person you are, Big G.
You are negative on Jack's views on things.
But then you also take a sneer at the Andylanders.
"...the khaki-clad and shell-shod have found Jesus somewhere else."
Outstanding, quote!
I think, G, is the third way.
... And I have to say that although I'd love Trad to boost Ivy style I'm still just as interested in all this fooling about on the 'puter if it boosts Preppy or Anglo style instead...
Trad as we see it on Andyland and as masterfully described by Trad to the Bone is a very broad church. It covers so many bases.
I'm an Ivy league fan, but you don't have to be. You can find what's Trad for you and go with that.
If we use it properly the Trad forum potentially could be incredible. That's my hope.
But. They. Need. To. Get. Themselves. An. Education.
... And only they can educate themselves - I'd never dictate anybody's style to them. We had enough of that crap when Harris held the attention of the Trad forum.
Harris really was a great test you know... Only those who knew less than him fell under his spell (& Harris knew very little & bluffed the rest badly). Those who knew more either left in disgust or spoofed him or used him for their own agenda.
I love the Net!
And I love Trad too for what it might become.
At the moment to 'Be a Trad' is to be the punchline of somebody else's joke.
The Trads can change all that if they wise up.
As with everything in life though it's all down to them.
I wish them well & will help them all I can...
Here's a start - Check out (in no order) Mr. Pollock, Mr. Horace, Mr. Stylestudent, Mr. Meyer, Dr. Damage... You know the list.
We can all know as much or as little as we choose.
But we all have to remember that we will always be judged by our choices.
- What a world!

Trad or Ivy, new school or old school, cavelier or roundhead? I would bet Trad is roundhead and just jealous. Maybe that's why I feel so comfortable with the Ivy.

Wait, so TBD=Jack? Or two separate people? I must confess that I would've never guessed about ol' TBD at AAAC. As I recall, back in the day, TBD was as "trad orthodox" and full of that weird annoying aspirational thing as the best of them. I was totally fooled. But then again, the level of "trolling" that has recently come to light is amazing to me. I'm not sure it's entirely good thing, but it's amusing (sometimes) and whatever....
