Re: Reefer Jacket / Pea Coat -

The genuine USN pea coats have a long centre vent, at the back.
On such a short jacket, this easily flaps open in windy weather.

I was gonna say Schott?

And i wondered it that was just too `obvious`.Still Made in USA, and a history of manufacturing peacoats for the US Navy.I just checked up on the site again and they now state that the wool of their naval style peacoats is `75 percent reprocessed wool, 20 percent nylon and 5 percent other fibers`. Ouch...!

I`m interested and just a little intrigued by this Melton wool car coat.

http://www.schottnyc.com/wool-clothing/mens-car-coat.htm

It`s a single breasted peacoat. Quilt lined, and Made in Canada. And you can have it in any colour you want as long as it`s black! Reminds me of one of those donkey jacket type Reefers that the great Kevin Rowland and crew wore in that `There there my Dear`vid posted by Brother Jack recently.

Re: Reefer Jacket / Pea Coat -

I like the style of both the Schott & Marc's jacket above - Mine is a six button (I think the 8 is too much) from the Monoprix (a kinda nothing special French supermarket). 100% Dark Navy wool.
I find all the authentic ones, although they have a certain style and are indeed authentic, not quite as cool as some of the better copies.
I have a pal who has this (Chris_H first brought this to his attention):

It looks great. Really nice lapel line & detailing.
Not 'authentic', but I think like my Monoprix one it looks more stylish than the real McCoy.

All depends what you want really...

The last post, this is the best example of a pea coat in my eyes, high buttoned, nice details, and timeless, often imitated never equalled (unless copied and charged through the nose)

That is a good one.  I've got one from my grandfather like it.  Made at the Naval Clothing Factory in Baltimore I think.  The thing that really separates the good ones from the mediocre is that fabric.  It's amazing stuff.  I doubt they could offer something like it anymore.  I've seen coats for a few thou. that have material less nice.
