Re: Atkinsons Neckties

Samhober.com (custom ties) has quite a few and frees you from the obligation of visiting a store.

Steven

Re: Atkinsons Neckties

I had Sam Hober make up some for me: excellent work and nice selection. Andover shop is difficult to deal with by mail or phone, they won't send you photos or put much effort into it by phone, they want you to pay by credit card tell them what you want, and they send you what they think you want, subject to return of course.

J Press' Atkinson's ties seem to be off to me, less pleasing colors, designs, just off.

In London, Selfridges has a selection but you have to open some drawers to find them, the prices are all over the place with some older inventory, which is OK with me.

The product is terrific, especially for travel, the knot holds, they are rather impervious to stretching, clean up nicely, and the advantage of Sam Hober is you can specify width and length. I find my RTW versions differ from retailer to retailer. Apparantly when you order from Atkinson you have a lot of options. With Sam he's got the raw cloth and yo decide what you want. Very reasonably priced as well. I have played with having a scarf made, with one side Atkinson's the other wool or cashmere. Sam, was game, I think.

I'd also say that Sam Hober is your best bet.

Funny enough, I was also thinking of a very similar scarf project last week.

Re: Atkinsons Neckties

Is Hober still operating in the US?  I caught his post on styleforum, where he posted some of his new designs for the month, and I couldn't tell if he was on extended holiday, or if he'd moved his operation overseas?  You've bought form his Cantab?  His Macclesfield designs certainly seem to be pretty tasteful to my eye -- but I don't know the "genre" of that tie very well.

Re: Atkinsons Neckties

I have the Hober variant on the Brooks No. 1. One of my best ties. Great knot. Based on his website, he's back from an extended trip.

Steven

Re: Atkinsons Neckties

What weight are your printed silks?

The Atkinson's poplin ties are very nice but they are for country wear in England. Americans will wear them with suits, even in the summer because somehow they carry a summery shimmer to them-though they are partially wool.
