T&A white oxford button down - as a "dress" shirt?

Being in love with T&A, I am reviewing my formerly quite restrictive shirt policy and strategy. Stocking up on versatile (= non-plain and/or non-popelin) shirts, what is your view on regular-sized white oxford button down button cuffs ones, to be worn in summer, with a cotton suit and a pastel Hermes tie?

And, while we are at it, how do you see white herringbone twills vs. white diagonal twills?

No it wasn't, with a sports coat or cotton/linen suit a BD looks quite ok I think. I like Herringbone twills, I have a really fab one in blue, with a BD collar, by Fray. Loveeeeeeleeee it is.

Well - in my head, there is the idea of a BD shirt in pinpoint, worn with a navy cotton/linen suit and a pastel Hermes tie.

I don't wear ties with a sports coat.

If your in the market for that price range I'd splash a bit more and get this...

Pinpoint and the collars really roll. I've a few of their BD's and the quality is top. Collar length is spot on IMHO. Fab buttons. Best BDs I've had, along with Fray. That T&A collar looks a bit pony.

Well T&As OTR range is now my ceiling for what I am willing to spend for a shirt.

And I am actually very happy with T&As fit, so really no need to try something new.

Well not "dress", as in black/white tie. But for a summer business outfit, with a cotton-linen suit.

Just do it, sounds good. You like T&A so nothing to lose by it.

Well, and here it is. Off now for a week in Ouchy, will report back about how it has performed as a casual shirt.

Why choose a relatively heavy fabric like oxford cloth for a summer shirting?

+1

I have a cling-flim-like Polo Ralph Lauren paper-thin poplin shirt - that sticks to the skin like hell. T&A's oxford is "grainy" and more like a fine net.

Re: T&A white oxford button down - as a "dress" shirt?

I picked up the Lands End Sail Rigger BD shirts recently that are perfect for summer - Oxford cloth but woven in such a way as to be great and breathe well for summer.  Collar seems fine (to me) and the colours are great, especially the Olive.  Naturally I wouldn't wear it with a tie, but with a jacket during summer these have been great.

Ralph Lauren vary hugely, I have some great BDs from them that work great with ties - poplins and oxford cloth both, and had some that were awful.  It depends on the line.  Some of the supposedly expensive shirts are dreadful, yet the RLL budget line when they can be found seem good quality ratio to price and have wonderful collars.  I don't think I've paid full price on a RL shirt for years though, TK Maxx is the place to get them, including those without the logo.

Well I have bought one and tried it as a business shirt but looked odd.

And as a casual shirt it looks wrong in winter.
