It is a hold-over from the 1970s, which has a following.
It is often more comfortable than a lace-up.

But, but, those are CHURCHES! They can't be any good! (copyright every other MB).
Those are nicer than the C&J ones, I'll admit, due to the swan-neck shape.
Check out the EG "Wigmore", if you can find an illustration, for a brogued version. It's a much copied old Peal design.
I like them but I wouldn't buy them.
They could look fly with the right 'fit, I'm sure of it.
Why it is so -I have no idea ( I will ask Dom) - but for some reason High fronted (vamped?) slip ons are popular in judicial circles in this country.
Perhaps because they are reminiscent of the traditional Buckled shoes.
I will check and report back.
Paraboots 'Universite' Beefroll loafer is higher cut than most US ones - Gives it a nice classic retro look to my eye:

Very easy on the foot too.

The Edward Green `Wigmore' is a ripper too. Anyone got a pic of it? (can't find a pic at the moment)
chums,
I like the Brooks Peal perf. loafer. That might be my next one. It's an old model that Brooks has had for a long time. I was never interested in it until StyStu brought it up. Now I must invest.
