Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Black Florsheim smooths would probably work. I'm not sure about longwings with a 3 piece.

Hope the trousers are ok.

3.25" should do it so the repp would do the job.

Although O'Connell's have some nice foulards which are 3.5".

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Actually with shipping and probable customs, those O'Connell's would be pretty damn expensive for us UK residents. Perhaps someone over here makes something similar.

Thanks, BB. Very cool shirt, the flap pocket is such a nice detail. Is the collar unlined?

^ You planning to wear that with a tie? Maybe a knit or fuzzyish wool tie, with tweed jacket.

Tattersalls and checks are one area where I think a point or spread collar is preferable if planning to wear with a tie. With a buttondown collar it looks too much like "Oh, I need a tie to get in this restaurant?"

I love those old LL Bean shirts. Even the part-poly ones. I just got one, a far more robust plaid.

I'm cheered to find I'm not the only guy with a 17 1/2 inch neck around here

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

Excellent all! AC, I have almost that exact same shirt, and the collar is beautiful. The LL Bean collars from that period are big, tall collars, but not flashy at all. I agree with Patrick, a thicker tie would look excellent - think the dark knitted tie/tattersall/corduroy thing Robert Redford has going on it All The President's Men... I do think that these Bean shirts look their best under a sweater or alone with the sleeves rolled partway up...

The pic in Tim's post shows the collar in action pretty well... Beautiful shirts, the both of you...

Re: Recent Old Ivy Finds

The postage cost was around $30 I think. In my experience $20 - $30 is a pretty common cost for shipping bigger items like jackets from the states to Sweden. It's still expensive but I've seen some sellers charging about $60 which is just absurd...
