Horizontal striped ties

“Ed Vaizey (Wantage and Didcot) was in orange socks and, like George Freeman (Mid Norfolk), wore the sort of horizontal-striped tie favoured by middle-aged groovers going through a crisis.”
Quentin Letts describing various MPs

Jon Snow The newsreader is presumably too old for this description

Re: Horizontal striped ties

/\  the silk motley striped ties he's wearing in those pics are particularly horrible ... horizontal stripes can work fine on knit ties though as we know .....

Re: Horizontal striped ties

Jon Snows ties are awful IMO the worst and most inconceivably shit uses of colour I've seen.

However whether JJ is a prick or not, Drakes make very nice ties.

Sometimes New & Lingwood hit a sweet spot better "wacky" van buck style and tasteful Drakes but not all the time.

And yes to classic mid-century ties especially ones that appear to capture the mood of a rothko in slub silk.

Re: Horizontal striped ties

I can't comment on what Jules is like, I've never met him. Jim had a lot of time for a few people with a working class accent, Jules, John S, Kevin Rowland, ect. I think its maybe part novelty and part feeling safe in the knowege these other boys won't lock him in a cupboard.... What they thought of him we can only guess, what?

Jules wears it well in the Drakes ad. I wonder if he gets to keep the clothes?

Re: Horizontal striped ties

The trick with ties, sometimes, is to find patterns and colors that arent that odd but drive insecure, uptight men crazy. Almost without an exception, men who get bothered by nicely designed ties that are vivid in color and/or pattern are powerless, sour C*&#s.

Re: Horizontal striped ties

I had a few horizontal striped ties in rather heavy woven silk by Hilditch  & Key, way back in 2005. They always made me look "dressy", like trying too hard. A fat cutaway collar and pointy shoes would have been missing.

Knitted horizontal stripe ties - yes, I understand them but too fogey.ish for my style.

I LOVE , this foum
