The Beauty of the Ugly...

I'm finally buying these at the weekend after a good long think:

http://www.paraboot.com/main.asp?groupID=2&topicID=1&subtopicID=3&prodID=21

I was originally going to go for a less obvious Paraboot but these make such a strong statement (whatever that statement may be) that I've been seduced.

Ugly aren't they?

Yet they have something about them. A certain style.

Bean Boots are kinda ugly too, so are Bass Weejuns in a way - They're far from being elegant.

Yet I love it all.

Anybody else love ugly stuff?

D.

Uncle I can see where you are coming from - and I agree.

The Trickers Keswick model  to me is   ugly -Flat wide round toe , no elegance whatsoever , big round lace eyelets, and an enormously wide welt, brogue pattern not particually fetching or nice-but my absolute favourite pair of shoes- with cords or moleskins.

I also have a hankering for Jolly fat girls-jolly is a necessity-no one wants a sad fat girl do they?

How about the Vass Budapester? Now there's an ugly shoe that a lot of people love.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

Re: The Beauty of the Ugly...

^the Maine Hunting Shoe has a softer rubber than the Bean Boot - supposedly like the Bean Boot of a few years back.  Much better IMO.  You can only get the MHS in brown top rather than tan.  I just bought a pair of the MHS in 12" tops.  Has a very retro look to it.  I dont see the need for Goretex unless you plan on standing in deep water for extended periods.  I typically wear a 10E and sized down to a 9EE and it fits fine - still have 1" room at the toe.

Re: The Paraboot Michael - The external label is easily removed btw & they are not as heavy as they look - There is also more flexibilty in the sole than I expected too.

Re: The Beauty of the Ugly...

I think Paraboot did, but I'm open to being informed otherwise.

The shoe is lighter than it look,s but it is still very sturdy as is their Avignon (sp?) model.

I was expecting them to be a bit more 'Herman Munster'... I was very glad when they weren't.
