Color sensitivity and mood disorders: biology or metaphor?

"A familiar but overlooked symptom in affective disorders is patient self-report of alterations in color sensitivity. Anecdotal and empirical evidence have suggested an association between mood and color sensitivity. The purpose of this pilot study was to test three hypotheses concerning the relationship between mood disorders and color sensitivity."

Both of the articles you posted cost $40... Without reading the full study no one can get any kind of real sense of what the goals or results are, if abstracts gave you a full picture of studies then academic journals would be a lot shorter.

Help us out here Beeston, what's the point?

In both cases, the abstracts provide enough talking points to encourage a discussion.

Mood can affect color perception!? I thought when I was seeing drab, blah colors, I thought I was just looking at Beesty's shirt wardrobe.

The effects of colour on a quantum and atomic level are thus..

The electrons surrounding atoms make quantum leaps when bombared with photons, different energies of photons in this case the colours we percieve induce different energy states, with the colours of higher vibrations cyan up to the top end of blue/purple end of the spectrum induce an increase in energy, slower vibrating colours red/orange reduce the energetic levels of the electrons around the atom.

I didnt google that by the way its from memory, but i think thats the general jist of it, if only Formby was here to google it then condescendingly correct me as if he knew all along.

So yes, colours do effect our energetic state on an atomic level. Science has worked that out for us.

As for colour sensitivity woman have increased levels of sensitivity to colours due to estrogen, I cant remember for what reason, there are other issues surrounding mood and low and high hormone levels.

I always try and hit up the soya milk before a day of colour matching, even if I might get weepy in front of a rom com later that day, thats the price you pay.

Colours and patters can have an effect on the brain of at least some people.

I think it was Morrisey that once warbled, "nature is a language, can't you read?" As he paraphrased Alan Bennett

I think it was Viz that once proclaimed: At last, it's official, Morrissey is a twat.

Quite prescient.

some sort of banal legitimacy
