LRB - "What Does She Think She Looks Like?"

A diversion into the realm of women's apparel - interesting article in the LRB on interwar womenswear, in which the author argues that women became more conscious self-aware of their dress only as recently as the early 20th century. Alongside this, there is perhaps an unspoken argument that male preening has a much longer history, as fans of militaria will likely attest.

Re: LRB - "What Does She Think She Looks Like?"

A diversion, not a divertissement, as it it is insufferably long, pedantic, and redolent of the odious and myopic critical studies approach to culture and the arts.
The new and exciting discovery of "Frock consciousness", when photo modern women shed the garments of oppressed servitude to don their "woke" frocks.
The article's bloviations are ultimately as impressive as the Emperatrix's new frocks.
